Need a push (shove) to start using cloth at night

My DS is 3 months old now, we've been using cloth in the day for about 8 weeks now, but I've always used a disposable at night as he sometimes sleeps through. I've got to start using my cloth nappies overnight though as my stash of disps are fast running out.

How long do any of you leave your DC in cloth overnight? And how do I do it? Do I use boosters/liners etc? And as I've got a mix of tots bamboozles, fluffles, motherease onesize(dry) and bambinex which would you reccomend to use for the night nappy? Failing that, does anyone reccomend sticking with the disposables??

Go for it. I was the same with dd who is now 22 months. I only switched to cloth at night 6 months ago Ds 4 months has been in cloth since birth.

yeah, cloth at night can be a bugger. have to admit cheating and using sposies at night sometimes, which is really rubbish coz the only reason we use cloth is that sposies make him sore [crappy mum emoticon!] - i do line them with fleece liners tho, when i use them!

theres loads of different types to use at night... the fattest, most absorbent collection of nappies and boosters you can get on them, covered with wool shorties, seem to be the most effective things ive tried.

Hijack - jennster, did you ever see my yprus pics? dont think i ever found you on FB, did i? i posted them on here earlier...

Sorry Neney, rudely interupted then, I use a bamboozle with a microfibre dishcloth (really) on the outside with an airflow wrap on both of mine.

BrandyButterGalore · 08/12/2007 23:55

really, is that all? how old are they? and how much do they drink at nightime? please

4 months and 22 months. Gorgeous photos nappies. DS (4 months) is always much wetter than DD. Starting to put her on a potty, but no luck there yet. Am really going to have to mop the bathroom floor properly today, they've done a wee each today.

Jennster · 09/12/2007 12:22

DD doesn't drink much, and ds is just bf.

normabutty · 09/12/2007 12:31

We've used cloth full time since dd was 2 weeks old. Used flat terries (used Jo-fold) at first. Then at about 2 months moved into fitteds.

We tend to use either a wambamboo with it's own booster and 3 cotton boosters with a wool soaker (instead of pul wrap) or a berry plush with it's own insert and 3 cotton boosters.

Also have a Baby Bufters night nappy (a fast dry one) which is fab, it's soooooo absorbent. I'd highly recommend them.

My LO sleeps through the night (has done since about 2 months) and we've had no problems with leaks.

When my DD was the same age as yours we used fluffles + fluffle microfibre booster (if you haven't got any supermarket value MF dishcloths are just as good ). I think this worked well for us until she was about 6 months old then we moved over to ellas house bumhuggers which we still use now. The EH are really good as they are fully fleece lined and my DDs bum is lovely and soft and dry even after 12 hours. They take a while to dry so we have three which allows us to air dry them.

I don't like using disposables at night without a fleece liner and I found as DD got older the nappies often split in the night = gel everywhere

Should point out my DD is a poor sleeper and was feeding every 2 hours until she was 8 months old (or more, can't remember), so you might find you can use fluffles for much longer than I could.

I use airflow wraps or fleece totsbots at night. I always use a fleece liner to maintain dryness.

There is another thread running on the 'Ethical Living' section about night nappies - worth having a look for more suggestions .

My DD switched to cloth when she was 18months old and we went straight into using them at night. I started off using fluffles, but had problems with them making her skin sore. I now use bamboozles, with one bamboo booster and a flecce liner, and use motherease airflow or rikki wraps.

I can say with both nappies, that in 9 months, they have NEVER leaked and she goes to bed around 7 pm (after a large beaker of milk)and doesnt get up until 8-9am so is in them for a long time. Hth

loth is soooo mcuh better for night.

My faves are baby bufter or bamboo quick flip. I normally do a bat folded bamboo square underneath (so if he poos I can just take that one out and use the main nappy still ). With a wool wrap (longies are nice n snuggly for winter) because they stretch nicely to go over th bulk and are more breathable than PUL

WalkingCinderWinterWonderland · 10/12/2007 13:43

Def. go with cloth at night ? DS and scrotal temp would be my major motivational factor.

Personally I don?t think the nappy is all that important ? I think the key is enough boosting. My 19 month DS sleeps through 12 hours and one stay-dry topped Motherease booster added to normal nappy is enough for him. I think a booster (or two or even three, you?ll have to experiment with how many your LO needs) along with either a micro-fiber or fleece liner or a stay-dry layer would be a good idea for your LO as he?s used to a disposable at night so that might help him stay comfortable.

Otherwise it?s have a play over a few nights and don?t give up. Some babies wet more than others, and if you need lots of cotton boosters, try hemp or bamboo as they are generally more absorbent and so a bit thinner.

WalkingCinderWinterWonderland · 10/12/2007 13:45

But, must say, as an indulgence, I have a couple of Huggle Nappies by Minki! So cute!!!

mistlethrush · 10/12/2007 13:52

We used Totsbots Bamboozle with a prefold on the outside as a booster (started on inside, but he got too big for that so went outside with size larger wrap) with a fleece wrap - started with Totsbots, but went on to Nature Babies fleece with popper fastening which meant it was more difficult to whip the fleece and nappy off before I got his PJs (or earlier, sleepsuit) on. Not exactly elegant for walking - but that's not what nighttime nappies are designed for!

nappyzone · 10/12/2007 22:08

my fave is a ellas house bumhugger as its a bit slimmer than some of my other night boosted nappies weeble style though my boosted bimble is close behind - all wrapped in a wool couche cover from puddlepants.
