Hope I've posted in right section. My 14 month old started with spots last week. On Thursday we sent photos to the GP and they advised likely the start of Chicken Pox. Today they've faded a lot and I'm starting to doubt they are. Has anyone seen similar? I will try and get another appointment tomorrow but it seems to be online at the moment. Attached photo is what the spots look like now. She is fine in herself, was a bit sicky over a week ago before the spots came out.

Ds had exactly the same start 2 weeks ago. He’s 17 months. Checked at doctors and it’s hand/foot and mouth. They gave him an antihistamine to stop itchy and help inside mouth as apparently that’s what stops them eating. He’s just getting over it now. No idea where he got it from

That looks like hand, foot and mouth. DS had it two weeks ago.
It's going round at the mo.
Not much you can do and tbf your lo will probably be over the worst of it now, as it usually has not last about 7-10

2 of mine have just had hand, foot and mouth. It's doing the rounds of nurseries /preschool! My dd started with spots around her mouth and then her hands looked very similar to your photo.
She was fine in herself though.

My 16 month old has similar last week. Hand foot and mouth. GP said it can be difficult to tell HFM and chicken pox apart in some children, especially from photos. GPs don't overly care which one it is as they are both viral so no specific treatment.

Chicken pox is very itchy and HFM mostly isn't as far as I'm aware.

Thanks everyone. A work colleague suggested the same. I was swaying more towards hand, foot and mouth too but I'd never seen it in person to compare

It is highly contagious too OP. When my DS had it my work wouldn't let me in the office just in case I spread it as we have two pregnant ladies and a fair few with toddlers and babies. Whilst most adults aren't affected we can pass it on

Yep, looks like DSs Hand, Foot & Mouth that he had a couple of weeks ago. Any of the spots blistered? We send photos to the GP and they just diagnosed it over the phone. Said there was no need to see him as there was nothing they could give. Usually burns itself out in about 7-10 days - although DSs spots took a little longer than that to fade completely!

The antihistamine def helped Ds as he had had a high temperature for 3-4 days and wasn’t eating or drinking much. So if needed I think you can get piriton or similar from the pharmacy in uk without prescription. I think it helps the spots inside mouth so they can eat better.

Gemmmmmma · 10/10/2021 20:39

@IcedCoffeeAlways yes some do look like they've blistered.

Won't bother the GP again then. Like I say, she's absolutely fine, wouldn't know anything was wrong if she wasn't spotty.

@Gemmmmmma Yeah DS was the same. He didn’t really seem to have many round his mouth. Had some on his hands and feet, thighs and his bottom. He was more under the weather right at the start and before the spots came out but he was just getting over a really awful cold when he got it so I’m not sure what was the cold and what was the HF&M.
As long as your DD is eating and drinking fine then I wouldn’t worry 😊 as others have said, I’m sure the pharmacy can help with antihistamines or I believe there is a spray that they can get for the mouth if the blisters are bad. But it sounds like your DD is the same and my DS and got of relatively lightly with it!
