Hello,
Some of you may remember I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago after my LG had a tummy bug, and I have quite bad anxiety around sick/being sick or dealing with it! Well 2 weeks later and I get another call from nursery, she's been sick again, same day of the week, just two weeks later. At first we started looking into foods she may have had that could have caused it but since I caught the bug 2 days later, it's obvious it's just a bug. Does anyone else have issues with anxiety around sickness? I just can't cope. I mean I deal with it because I have to, but I can't bring myself to eat and I can barely sleep worrying she's gonna be sick at night (and that's before I was ill). And everything shes being fussy and whingy I convince myself she's gonna be sick again, even days later.
On top of that, she's also cutting her last 2 back molars, and shes the devil at times!! Anyone else's child suffer with their behaviour when they're teething? My god I can't wait for them to be through!!
I guess this is probably more of a rant that anything else, but please, share 😊

Are you having any treatment for your sickness phobia?
Children get ill OP. You’ve got many years ahead of you of this and I think you will drive yourself insane if you don’t get some help.

MamaSJ15 · 11/10/2021 14:02

No not having treatment, what kind of treatment would there be for that? Never been asked that before!
I understand children get ill and I deal with it when she does.
The world is a different place right now. It seems to make everything just that little more worrying or scary (in general, not a sickness bug), and honestly, a little support can go a long way.
These posts are usually not the whole story, there's usually something underlying that has pushed the person to the point of looking for support from strangers

Sorry, I didn’t mean to sound unsupportive, quite the opposite. Health anxiety is a recognised condition and one that can be treated with things like CBT or counselling. It is worth discussing it with your GP.

When I had a period of severe anxiety around my children’s health (brought on by my older child contacting cold sores and me being petrified it would be passed on to my newborn) I was prescribed propranolol, which helped to take the edge off when I was spiralling.

MamaSJ15 · 11/10/2021 14:23

Thank you for your response @TheGrumpyGoat. I apologise too, I've had one of those weeks and I feel very emotional!
I have dealt with anxiety in the past (before having DD), and i did get prescribed something from the docs, but I've always vowed I don't want to be on medication, I'd like to try kick it another way. I know anxiety is a mental health issue, so maybe speaking to someone wouldn't be a bad idea.
Along with this, we also have two people at my work test positive for covid so we've had that constantly on our minds too, as well as having to go for tests. And, yano, the usual family irritations (I can't call them problems as such, but definitely irritations).
I'm sorry to hear about your anxiety also, did you get it sorted or do you still suffer sometimes?

I still suffer sometimes, especially over the winter when they seem to bring all sorts of bugs home. I get a feeling of dread because I know that when one gets it the rest probably will too (I have three!). We've currently all got a nasty cold (all
Covid negative)… bizarrely now we’ve all got it I feel fine, I think it’s the anticipation of everyone being ill that makes me anxious.
When I spoke to the GP she said it’s totally normal to be anxious about these things, but sometimes you just need a bit of help to deal with the anxiety. I didn’t take the propranolol often but when I felt like I wasn’t coping well I took them for a period and they did help.

I can understand that @TheGrumpyGoat, I feel anxious waiting for my LO to be sick when she's got a bug, I deal with it fine when it's happening (well as fine as anyone can I guess). And because it's happened two times in two weeks, I'm anxious cause I feel like I'm waiting for it to happen again, which is unlikely so soon AGAIN.
I may speak to my GP and see if they can refer me to speak with someone. Thank you.
