For teething? No. And no.

blacksax · 08/10/2021 17:12

You want to strap a bracelet made from beads of cheap plastic fake fossilised tree sap onto your baby?

CiaoForNiao · 08/10/2021 17:14

Are they safe? No.
Are they any good? Also no.

Not safe and don't work.

therealhoppityvoosh · 08/10/2021 17:26

Choking hazard. Strangulation hazard. Pointless and dangerous.

CottonSock · 08/10/2021 17:28

Please don't do it.

Mummyto4boys1122 · 08/10/2021 17:29

Oh wow seen them recommended for a while now, bought him the Sophie giraffe instead

Have you tried the Teetha granules? They are just chamomile I think. They seemed to help my kids!

2lsinllama · 08/10/2021 17:30

I’m really interested to read this. My step daughter has used the amber necklaces for both her children (now aged 2 and 4). I wondered about how/if they worked and if they were safe. She was convinced that they did. Always made me a bit nervous though.

heywassuphello · 08/10/2021 18:21

Don't mean to be rude but what do you think is gonna happen? The ambers healing properties magically go through the child's skin and into the blood stream? Don't get it myself

TheOpportuneMoment · 08/10/2021 18:32

The pain relief part of amber is because when heated to high temperatures it releases succinic acid. This is released when the amber reaches 93 degrees celsius. Anything under that it's just an dangerous choking risk with no benefits whatsoever. Normal body temperature is 37 degrees.

An excellent summary.

Amber necklaces serve two purposes; polished as decorative jewellery for adults and unpolished around the necks of infants as a signal to more sensible parents that said child is almost certainly unvaccinated and the parents are full of woo.

Fallagain · 08/10/2021 18:40

The boy thing is teething granules which helps is sugar.

Do NOT give herbal remedies to kids, extremely dangerous, you are risking liver damage
Rosesareyellow · 08/10/2021 18:47

Meh, some people find them helpful - I reckon it’s just the sensation of the beads might be soothing or distracting, like a dummy in the mouth. You could use any bracelet for that though (although for safety reasons obviously unwise) I doubt the actual amber does anything.

Mummyto4boys1122 · 08/10/2021 18:57

Not buying them
Was just asking if anyone has tried them as I see them a lot
I’ve bought him a teething toy:)

@Orangejuicemarathoner why spread info you know nothing about? Teetha is licensed as safe in the uk

KittenKong · 10/10/2021 15:09

We got teething granules from a pharmacy -
I think not was camomile. We called it ‘baby crack’ because it worked so well (and it seemed to taste very nice). The other thing that worked was a cheap gel filled teething ring (you stick it in the fridge) that came with a parenting magazine and we used in desperation one night when DSs gums were really sore.

Amber - love it myself and small kids look cute, but they just want to gnaw on something when their gums are sore.

HermioneWeasley · 10/10/2021 15:09

Just give calpol for teething pain.

Have you had tooth pain - it’s fucking miserable. When I had a tooth extracted last year they didn’t tell me to suck something cold, or wear an amber bracelet or use ambiguous granules - they told me to take paracetamol for the pain.

Exactly! It's sold as a safe and effective teething relief containing a miniscule amount of chamomile. It is recommended for babies and is sold by major retailers alongside the other products for infants. As recommended by every midwife or health visitor whenever I've asked about it.

KittenKong · 10/10/2021 17:53

I think it could be to do with the rough texture too.

Throughabushbackwards · 10/10/2021 17:59

They're a bunch of woo for sure. This blog post pulls together some scientific evidence -

The bracelets/necklaces, I mean.

JapanJetplane · 10/10/2021 18:16

Dangerous and pointless

SmallWaistFatFace · 10/10/2021 18:17

I've seen countless TikTocks (sad, I know) of women who put there kids down to nap with their Amber teething necklaces and dying
