hi mums new to forum,

i just wanted to ask if mums had a similar worry as me! i have a 2 year old with extremely present autism. he cant understand anything you say to him hes essentially completely in his own wee world diagnosed as currently non verbal.

i am so worried that he wont be able to sit in nursery or pay attention because he is in his own wee world. he is really funny with eating too and im scared he will struggle to sit down and eat it takes me a good while to feed him as he does not understand he needs to sit down to eat he always walks around with food.

are my expectations too high? im really anxious about it i have no real life friends to ask to weigh in on this

The nursery staff will be experienced with children with autism. they won't force him to sit. In fact they won't force any two year old to sit for long. The care will be child-centred, and age-appropriate.

When you pick him up after the session, they will tell you if/what he has eaten. Perhaps you could send in his own food, so it is familiar. That might help. Or let nursery know what his preferences are. they will do their best to help.

Please don't worry too much about this, speak with the nursery staff, who will put a care plan in place, with his needs. Of course you have expectations that your child will be fed at nursery, and if you let them know what they need to do. many toddlers require individual spoon feeding - and plenty of time. Just ask.
