Toddler coats - so uncomfortable

They often seem to be ridiculously bulky, with arms that are too long. Where can I find a nice comfortable coat for my 18 month old that fits well, keeps her warm and doesn’t leave her feeling like the Michelin man? Confused

Following. They all seem to be huge.

Gap there toddlers coats are great. Sleeve can be rolled up.

My 2 year olds coat from last winter now fits her perfectly (18-24 months). Size down maybe? Had good coats from h&m and George. Bought a 2-3 size coat for this year in case she has a sudden growth spurt/prepared for next year but it is HUGE!

My 3 and a half year old is still
In her 18-24 months age coat. It finally fits like a dream! Try sizing down.

Fdksyihfd · 08/10/2021 06:17

I would recommend sizing down, I only actually realised that when my DDs 18-24 month coat fitted her so well the following winter for 2-3 years. Even now at 4 I think the smaller coats are better and she’s normally in the right size for her age

I've had comfortable warm winter coats from Uniqlo and Monsoon for my toddler.

Shouldhavebutdidnt · 08/10/2021 06:58

Same as PP 2.5 year old is wearing 18-24 from JoJo and fits much better!

ACNHMAMA · 08/10/2021 06:58

If the sleeves are too long, it's the wrong size surely?

Supermarket coats tend to always be massive. I notice this with DS still now. Because I always go there to get them a big coat for school.

Maybe try some Outdoors type shops. Those types of brands tend to be a bit thinner/designed for layering.

We like the ones with a plastic waterproof layer lined with towelling or fleece. I’ve seen them described as fisherman coats. Hatley, little nibs and Powell craft are brands we have had (usually 2nd hand, they last well)

Poppy709 · 08/10/2021 07:58

We have one of the fisherman’s style coats described above from Tesco, it’s lovely, the sleeves do need rolling up but because it’s not thick material it’s easy and can layer up underneath with jumpers.

Zara!

HungryForSnacks · 08/10/2021 08:07

Gilet / puffer vests are a great option to get around the sleeve issue! (Until it gets too cold of course)

Lidl fleece lined waterproof coats are perfect at this time of year, not bulky and very cheap. If the sleeves are too long the elastic on the wrists just hold it on with no bulk. They don't have them in store all year round but you can always pick them up on eBay/vinted. The brand is lupilu.

They also do waterproof ski jackets for about a tenner which are also none bulky, warm and waterproof.

Their fleece lined waterproof dungarees are also great for winter.

I'm not sure that's the case. Coats are often designed for a range of ages and just scaled up or down but toddlers are built differently to older kids with arms short compared to torso (they really struggle to reach for bum wiping) and are generally a bit bigger bellied so a coat that fits the body might well have long arms.

PeacefulInTheDeep · 08/10/2021 12:28

My DS spent last winter (aged 2.5) in the 18-24 months coat I'd bought him the previous year. Both that and the new one he's got this year are from H&M. Look for elasticated cuffs on the sleeves.

modgepodge · 08/10/2021 18:14

It’s not just me then, I thought all coats were massive!! My (admittedly petite) 2.5 year old is wearing a waterproof which is 6-9 months. She has a lovely 18-24 coat which I expect might fit her when she starts school.
