My 1.8 yr old toddler fell down while walking on a hard, almost concrete like surface and bruised his upper lip , and slightly chipped away upper teeth .

Do I have to consult with paediatric dentist over this ?
You can see bruise and chipped teeth in pic.

Will it be something serious like this article almost scaring me

Like blindness and brain damage just due to chipped teeth. It's crazy!

I cracked both my teeth as a baby years ago! I have both adult teeth...

My crack was both in half

Give him an ice lolly if you have any to take the swelling down. His lip looks quite sore. X

I'd book a checkup with the dentist.

Kids can take some bad knocks to the teeth and all be well. Our 9 year old took a rounders ball in the mouth a couple of months ago, 2 fat cut lips but no lasting damage to her teeth.

Go to the dentist to check but this is not uncommon.

I chipped my front tooth as a baby (on the bath), the dentist said it might discolour but it didn't and my adult teeth came through OK.

As an adult I had braces and the orthodontists actually shaved some of the enamel off my teeth to help them straighten, I didn't feel a thing (no anesthetic) so hopefully it is just a bit of enamal.

DS fell face first on a tiled floor at two years old. The teeth didn't chip or become loose but both went grey over a period of weeks and stayed that way until they fell out around aged ten. Adult teeth are fine.

My 5yo has a chipped grey tooth that he damaged aged about 2. He’s quite self conscious about it even though I have personally never mentioned it. So I would give your head a bit of a wobble personally and get used to the idea that it might go grey. The more bothered you are about it, the more likely he is to be.

This age is actually a pretty good age to bash the front teeth as the adult teeth are likely to still be quite high in the jaw and therefore less likely to be affected by the bump. We’ve probably got another year or two before we find out what my child’s adult tooth will be like but I’m not wasting time worrying.

You’ve had good advice about gently filing it if it’s sharp, and checking it’s not wobbly, and consulting a dentist. But please stop being so OTT about a little chip.

I attached close up image .. does it look damaged badly . I fear the other front teeth might be damaged too.
On the other hand I feel like personally disciplining the 3 yr old nasty cousin of my son who is partly responsible for him falling

Sorry for being revengeful , but I feel like she should trip too once. Spoiled brat for ruining my son's smile. 😤😤

No it doesn't look badly damaged at all. It looks like a tiny chip and unnoticeable unless you zoom in with a camera.

Unless his cousin frequently attacks him and deliberately shoved him to the floor, then don't blame her, she's 3yrs old for goodness sake. Toddlers get into lots of bumps and scrapes. It's normal.

Try to move on, just keep an eye on it and mention it at your dental check up. Smile

sarahhoping · 07/10/2021 08:25

@SmileyClare ya minor chip is perfectly ok. The only thing scary is a grey tooth. 😅
I hope they remain white which I guess would be if blood vessels of teeth were not damaged.

OP, what happened eventually? Did it turn grey?

My little boy was forever falling at that age . He smacked his mouth of the sink one time at that age which was the perfect height to be level with his head then and he chipped his front teeth the bottom of them . I was on holiday at the time and he seemed fine so never seen a dentist . They’re still a bit ragged age 3 but I’m sure his adult teeth be fine . I think probably as long as he’s not in pain, there’s no swelling or that the tooth doesn’t change colour it be fine . I read that hard bumps to teeth can sometimes kill the nerve in which case it would change colour
