Going backwards with toilet training

DS has really driven me mad this week. Every time I think he's cracked the toilet training we then return to having accidents.

Nursery seemed to be the toughest nut to crack and then this week he cracked it. Spent a whole day there yesterday with no accidents, just plenty of stickers on his toilet chart.

Now today at his Grandparents he's had two accidents, in between using the toilet successfully. He has a reward sticker system everywhere he goes, and often gets even more treats at Grandparents as incentives/rewards.

Any ideas or similar experiences? DS is very nearly 3.

sounds normal to me. It must be hard for kids to adjust being in different environments, with different toilet set-ups - maybe he just got so absorbed in what he was doing he didn't leave enough time to get to the potty.

My DD has been dry for a few months now but had a few days last week when she kept forgetting to go to the potty. It drove me mad at the time, but eventually she got back into the swing of it and she is fine now.

When your DS has an accident don't make a big deal out of it, remind him sternly that he needs to use the potty/toilet, clean up the mess, then forget about it. The more stressed you become about it, the more likely it is to become a persistent problem IMO.

He's not even 3 yet, he'll get there eventually!

Thanks for that. I always try to have a carrot on the end of my stick, if you know what I mean.

I don't make a song and dance about the accidents, and today they were when he was engrossed in other things.

I was under the impression 3 was late, no?

My dd2 is 3 and a half and still wets and poos herself, but only at home. I think she does it for attention so I just ignore it !

3 not late!

chankins, who cleans it up then

He's not behind the tribe then? Well that's good. I think he's totally ready to do it, just chooses not to sometimes.

We'll, or more specifically, he'll, get there in the end.

I do ! But I just don't speak to her or look at her while I'm doing it - she laughs, a sure sign she is doing it for attention.
Its hard though, I have to admit I did tell her off today for the first time in ages because I'd been telling her for ages to go, then we realised she'd pood her pants. I tried saying father christmas will only bring her coal if she doesn't try harder ! Probably still won't work though. I spoke to HV about it at her 3 and a half yr check and she said they don't worry about it until age 5 or 6. I have no doubt that she'll be fine at school next yr, as she is at nursery. Aren't kids joyful ?!
