Do I need a drive with 2 children?

We have a house where the only place to park is on the street, often 5-10 minutes walk away. This is a BUGGER at the best of times, especially when DD has fallen asleep and I have to try and carry shopping/pram/dd miles up the road.

We are trying for no. 2 but I can't see how I will be able to function if we don't have a house with a drive. I just can't imagine the practicalities of it. Although I love my house, I think it might be an idea to move if we get pregnant.

Is this going to be as big an issue as I think it will? Am I worrying unnecessarily? Any advice from mums of 1+?

Can you drop stuff off at your house (shopping, baby gear, etc), drive the car and kids to park then walk back?

I used to put dd in the pushchair and walk her back that way, but do sympathise - it is a massive pain.

We had no drive for the first 10 months of DS2s life and it was a pain in the ar$e. DS1 was 2 when DS2 was born and I couldn't be bothered to keep getting the pram out of the boot to go from car to house so I had to time my journeys to ensure I got home early enough that the space outside/near our house hadn't gone.

Do you have a front garden you can convert to off street parking instead of moving?

Soupdragon: we are looking into this - we have a large front garden but is in a conservation area and the council have (informally) said no.

I CAN park on the double-yellows on the street, load stuff into the house, but it is a long walk from the street to the front door, and as it is a busy town street I don't like leaving DD in the car while I do this (especially as I can't see the car from the house).

It's bloody difficult already tbh and thought of doing it with 2 terrifies me!

It was a relief when me moved and had a drive. It wasn't the reason we moved though

Soupdragon: I am panicking.

We could also do with another room and I've had a quote for an extension to do this which made me say HOW FECKING MUCH??????? and realise that I should have studied bricklaying instead of doing a big pansy degree in divinity.
