Flexi-schooling

Hi All,

Does anyone have experience of flexi-schooling?

I have a very bright DD who is bored at school. They teach her things she could do 2 years ago and for some time I've been trying to find a solution. She's currently in year 2, she is not disruptive at school but she shows signs of frustration at home connected with this, I believe.

I applied to flexi-school her for 1 day a week and this has been declined, without a good reason. I understand there is no way I can appeal this decision and the Head is the only person I've come across who doesnt think its a good idea, she will not even give it a try on a trial basis.

Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences that could help?

Ive never understood flexi school, while it sounds good in theory, how would it work in practice if the teacher starts a 5 day project on Monday and the pupil is off for the first 2 days. How do they catch up without causing already stretched teachers more work load? Surely a flexi schooled pupil means a teacher would need to replan their lessons for everyone around that child? Then another child moves to flexi school on different days....

While I can see your pov, I am not surprised the HT is invoking his right to decline to protect his staff from the additional workload.

Flexi schooling is a great alternative for parents if the teachers agree to it.

Here is a map of schools already do it. Maybe if there’s one in a reasonable distance to you, you could transfer.

We’re genuinely considering moving areas to be able to flexi school our children. We’re lucky that my daughter’s school have agreed to allow us to have one day a week home schooling but I do not think they will allow this once she is out of reception and of compulsory school age.
