Sleeping with a cold

Please everyone give me your best tips for helping your babies sleep with a cold!

My 15mo is a nightmare when he has a cold, no one sleeps for the duration 😴 I use baby vapo rub, calpol saline nose drops, sterimar breath easy nose spray and olbas oil. Any better ideas?

Don't know if you've tried raising the mattress by their head by I find that helps.

boyse4 · 04/10/2021 17:43

I haven't! I'll give it a go. Thank you @aSofaNearYou

We had some luck with the Calpol plug ins when DD was little.

Calpol plug ins here too! Also snufflebabe on the soles of their feet, then socks on top. Dont ask me why this works, but it really does!

A humidifier in the room at night saved us

boyse4 · 04/10/2021 19:47

Thank you for the suggestions I'll try them out! Currently had nearly an hour of him not being able to go to sleep 🤦‍♀️

There’s a old wives tale about leaving a cut onion in the room (Google it I swear I’m not messing with you Grin) Never tried it and I’m highly skeptical but what have you got to lose? (Please report back if you do resort to this) hope your baby is feeling better soon x

Calpol plug in is king!

newmummy8789 · 04/10/2021 21:57

Calpol plug in is amazing, Obas oil on a damp flannel on the radiator (if it's on), I also put some on a Muslin under his sheet by his head. Hope he gets better soon x

Rosebud1302 · 04/10/2021 22:01

Calpol plug in is the only thing that works here

whatswithtodaytoday · 04/10/2021 22:04

Calpol plug in. It's so lovely, of I have a cold too I actually don't mind having to go in to him in the night.

We have it on a lot, basically as soon as he gets snotty.

headinthecloudsnow · 04/10/2021 22:30

I have used the calpol plug ins but I find the refills to be too expensive, and the light on the plug too bright.

I put a bowl of boiling water with a blob of vicks in their room before bed (somewhere safe obviously) and then refil and do the same before I go to bed later on.

Plus vicks on their chest and backs. And calpol before bed. If you don't want to use the vicks in hot water just put some drops of olabas oil on a flannel next to their bed.

I always do this and it definitely works.

When my DD had a cold, I put vicks on her chest and feet (then socks on), Calpol plug in, olbas oil on a cloth near the cot (but out of reach) and a humidifier… can’t say what worked but I done it all 😂

I recommend the Snufflebaby snot sucker and vapour rub

Journeyofamum · 06/10/2021 14:57

My 16 months old had cold and cough 4 times in last 3 months. It's the germs she is catching from the nursery. I tried everything under the sun and here are my tips -

Actual calpol, it dries your nose out

boyse4 · 06/10/2021 19:08

Thanks so much everyone, really helpful advice.

@Journeyofamum I read your blog, it is great and very helpful. I will be trying some now! Thank you.
