I know it's November, but does my 5wk old daughter have heat rash?

My daughter's skin was perfect. But over the last week she has developed tiny bumps all over her chest, which have spread to her shoulders, neck and face near her hairline? Bumps are white, very close together and skin around them is pink.

Dr and Health Visitors think it's dry skin so have been using Diprobase, but am not convinced it's working and think it might have made it worse. Skin is dry to touch but not 'eczema-dry'. She's not itching them nor is she showing any signs of being bothered by it.

I don't think we are keeping her overly warm and she doesn't get so hot that she wakes up sweaty?

Can anyone offer any thoughts?

PS She is purely breastfed.

Could be a reaction to being indoors with the central heating on - a sort of mild excema. Is the air quite dry, perhaps ventilating the rooms and/or a humidifier may help.

My dd developed a sweat rash at a similar age, primarily from being cuddled skin-to skin,breastfeeding/co-sleeping etc. Could this be the problem? Once we were a bit more careful about skin to skin contact it quickly cleared up (though it was a shame to have to stop this!)
HV reccommended no fabric conditioner when washing her clothes but only did about 2 washes this way cos clothes gor stiff and uncomfortable.HTH

dd had this type of thing, double check clothes washing powder, any perfumes you or anybody else cuddling her might have, have you changed something in your diet at all in the last week? I increased my intake of diary/soy and this resulted in a rash, when I cut it out it disappeared.
Unfortunately it is a bit of trial and error.

Thanks for the suggestions lizs, sassy and chuffed. Am working on giving her a bit more naked time and trying not to wrap her up as much... if this shows little improvement will go down the allergy trial and error route, but cant' think of anything that I'm doing differently now to before she got spotty; as she's not finding it a problem I'm not going to get too worried about it and hope that, if it doesn't clear up straight away, that in the next few weeks she kind of just grows out of it.

THanks again.

A friend of mine had the same problem with her little girl, She was givin a cream by her doctor but she found that it made the problem worse, So she went to her local health food shop and told the lady what the problem was and she gave her a cream.. It cleared up in 2 weeks and it was eczema that the little girl had.. Hope this helps..

My dd had exactly the same thing, it appeared at about 4/5 weeks. During this time my HV changed. The first said it was heat rash because of the central heating and my paranoia about her getting cold as it was feb. The second HV said that it was due to homones in my breast milk. A friend of mine reckons that it might have been the lanolin cream I was using on my nipples. Take your pick but in the end with no creams or intervention it cleared up by the time she was 8/10 weeks.
