My son was delayed with this and started on his 4th birthday, he was reliably dry in 3 days.

2.5 years for us and dry (daytimes) within 5 days. Dry at night by 3.5 years

I'd recommend oh crap potty training book

The oh crap method was amazing for my first but my second is a nightmare and it didn’t work for her. They both self initiated potty training at around 2. Before potty training they need to know the difference between between wet and dry, just the concept of water on their hand, be able to take their own trousers up and and be able to communicate their needs.

It’s best to do it in summer, lots of time in garden, fewer clothes to wet, lots of naked ti and wet clothes dry quickly.

Other children do notice if they train later. Before my daughter turned 3 she would ask me why certain children were still in nappies.

I read Janet Lansbury who said (I’m paraphrasing) to buy a potty, show them where it is and when they’re ready they’ll ask. That’s pretty much what we did and DD’s beeb reliably using the potty, not mostly the loo, since about 2 and 4 months.

She sees us use the loo, she likes being independent and using the potty, we’ve never made any fuss about it.

About 2y 2m, but she has a potty at her grandparents that she was taken to use after every meal there, in true 1970s parenting style (they do childcare four days a week). We wanted her out of nappies before the new baby arrived.

She trained really quickly, but has always been very lazy about pulling her own trousers up and down, which I think wouldn’t have been an issue had she been older.

She was 2yrs 2 months and first day was horrific she just peed everywhere 🙈. Day 2 she only had 3 accidents and day 3 she didn't make it the toilet on time and there was a pop on the kitchen floor 😂. After that though that was her, was pretty easy in the end.

I didn't read any books or look up any advice just went for it. After day 1 I did feel a bit out of my depth but I was so surprised how well she done the next day. We also got rid of the potty on day 2 and started using the toilet seat which was brilliant, no cleaning out the potty and meant it was much easier when we were out as she cld just use normal toilet. I took the seat with me for first month or so but then she was ok with using a toilet and holding on to me.

My youngest is 22 months and is constantly pulling at her nappy. Tells us when she's done a poo. Wakes up in the night screaming bum and pulling at her nappy. I've tried her on the potty before bath time and she sits on it but hasn't done anything yet. I'm not planning to potty train until I've got some extended time off work so Christmas time. She'll only just be turned 2 so just see how it goes.

Used Oh Crap book here too. Trained at just over 23 months and is now reliably dry during the day at 24 months.

Under 2 us not too young if they are capable. All down to the individual.
