Which Formula?

I'm currently 27 weeks pregnant and like to plan ahead in my mind. Not about to go out shopping but just curious which formula others use and how you decided/find it?

My firstborn had initially started on Cow & Gate then diagnosed with CMPA so we were on prescribed formula for majority of the time she was on bottles.

I've been seeing a lot of positive reviews of Kendamil so wondering if it's worth considering? Just a bit cautious of it not being as widely stocked as the other brands and a bit wary with relying only on online deliveries.

Tbh you never know until baby arrives.
Starting out with cheaper and ones available from multiple places is best. You can change milks if the 1st you choose doesn't agree with them. If you have to rely on online stores I would always keep a stock of at least a few weeks ahead in the house just incase there are any delivery issues.

We started out with C & G as they do the little pre-made bottles with sterile teats which were fab in hospital. Baby had lots of trouble with wind and loose/frequent poos. We swapped to hipp organic and we now have a very content baby.

My criteria would be available as a starter pack with the teats for the hospital, that it’s easily found at most shops and also that it comes ready made so when you go out all you need to do is throw a sterilised bottle and the carton in your bag. Mine both did well on Hipp Organic which ticked all of those boxes. Kendamil would be too much of a faff for me to consider.

All first stage milks must by law contain the same basic mix of nutrients. Anything else is bells and whistles and attempts to draw you in and sell you stuff. There is minimal difference between the super expensive high end stuff and the supermarket own brand. Both will feed and grow your baby should you be unable to or choose not to breastfeed.

Kendamil is on a big advertising spree at the moment. Remember they are a business just like any other and in the baby milk market they are a relative newcomer so they are very much trying to grab a share of the market and much of their current advertising methods are unethical and against the WHO code of conduct for marketing of breastmilk substitutes.

The best place to go to is First Steps Nutrition. This is the only place you will find a full and comprehensive list of infant milks and information about them. They are completely independent and unbiased so you can trust the accuracy of the info they give.

All formula contains the same nutrients yes, but not all ingredients are exactly the same, and not all suit all babies. My first did very well on HiPP Organic, after struggling with Cow & Gate and being investigated for CMPA.

DD2 suffered constipation to the point of impaction with HiPP, but the issue was fixed within days of being on Kendamil.

I’d take one that has a starter pack to hospital, start with that and change if needed.

Thank you all! Yes hadn't thought of having one that had a starter pack that's definitely something I'll consider and always handy to have the premade option as we didnt have that with DDs prescribed milk. I think because my DD didn't agree with C&G so much it's just put me off that brand a bit but probably without much reason as she had CMPA anyway so none of them probably would have.

Also thanks @OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea - never heard of First Steps Nutrition but love doing a good bit of reading up on things so will definitely be checking that out. Interesting points about Kendamil too, they've definitely just caught my eye with a lot of advertisements recently!
