nearly seven year old in night time nappies

Hi,
Just thought I'd run this by you lot, and see what people's thoughts are. I am tending towards not worrying about it, as I don't think she yet has any control over her bladder AT ALL when asleep so there is nothing I could do anyway....Or is there? I do always get her to go to the loo before bed, and I don't let her drink immediately before bedtime, unless she's thirsty. So, should I be worried? Should I be doing something about it? Will she just eventually stop wetting at night? Anyone with experience out there?
She's been day time trained since the age of 2 and a half.
Younger sister toilet-trained herself completely at about 21/22 months old. So real contrast!

No advice to offer, just have you seen this huge thread on this today?

dd is 6.8 and also has nappies at night getting a bit fed with the expensive of pull-ups and would love her to be dry. Have tried terries nappies so they feel the wet, then lifting, getting her to drink more in the day but no drinks after 6pm. In the summer we went with out nappies for about 3 weeks. Soaking wet bed every morning, got fed up changing sheets every morning. Now I just live in hope she will get dry in her own time. She also wants this as she want to stay over with friends but very worried about friends knowing about the bed time nappy.

As a matter of interest, how do you manage to pin a terry nappy on a nearly 7 year old? I imagine it must be quite a struggle, unless you've managed to get some extra large size nappies from somewhere? And what sort of plastic pants do you use?

Redpyjamas, I suspect this is a lot more common than people realise. My DD is 2 1/2 and dry at night, but DS1 was atleast 7 1/2 before he stopped wearing "night time pants" I never commented on it or called the nappies. If you look on the supermarket shelves you'll see huggies/pampers make pull ups for quite large sizes.

DD was tall and skinny so was just able to get her in the terries. She was about 6-6.5 when I tried the terries. Plastic pant were more of a problem but the largest pant I got were ellie pants and they did just fit. They also do larger terries.
Don't think she would fit int plastic plastic pants now. Stopped going up for abit and has filled out a bit.

Terries can still be suprisingly effective at this age, my sisters son is still not dry overnight at 6yrs and although she uses mainly disposables she does still keep a supply of toddler terries as a back up. Admittedly he'd sooner wear a disposable because he can have one put on whilst standing but she can easily manage to get a kite fold on him with the minimum of fuss by using a pin at either side and working quickly before he escapes !

I have had success with waking ds1 up at 11pm and taking him to the toilet. he very rarely wets the bed if I do thins, but if I don't he nearly always does. It's cheaper than nappies! And TBH he is nearly 5 and nappies would be getting too small now anyway, and PJ pants are extortionate.

My dd2 was around 6 (she had potty trained herself with her sisiters help at 2.6) and still in night time nappies. I was given the advice that 6pm is the magic hour and not to give drinks after this time.

I stopped drinks after 6pm lifted her for the first week and that was that she was dry at night and has been ever since.

Apparently I was told that they didn't know why it was 6pm that was the magic time but it seems to work.

Lexcat's reference to elliepants was very helpful. They look good. My DS1 is 4 next month and still in night nappies, with no sign at all of him coming out of them anytime soon. He's a very heavy wetter, and I've always used terry nappies kite folded with another one pad folded on top for nights. With pull on plastic pants over the top I never get any leaks, as long as all the nappy is neatly tucked inside. It's reassuring to read that lots of children are still in night nappies well over the age of 4. However, as time goes on it's going to be more difficult to pin on a terry nappy, but I see that elliepants do a 78cm nappy which will help. What experience has anyone had with the pants? Do they leak? I've never been very keen on that type of popper fastening.
