Toddler leaking every night!

My 2.5 year old leaks wee from his nappy every night and it's causing early morning wakings. I've tried pull ups, pull ups with +, next size up pull ups, extra absorbent + rip tape nappies and nothing is working!

He would not tolerate a booster pad being put inside his nappy, he would just rip it out if we even attempted it.

He has milk before bed but I've reduced this dramatically to barely 4oz and it's not made any difference. He doesn't have water in his room or anything overnight.

Any tips? Should I get rid of bedtime milk? He loves this though and I feel bad to take it away!

Are the nappies saturated! Just wondering if the leaks might be coming out of the side or top spot would be to do with the fit rather than the size of the nappy?

Sorry, should have been ? not ! after the first sentence.

Following with interest!! Having the exact same problem with my 2.5 year old, who also loves his bedtime milk (has about 6oz though). Getting fed up of stripping the bed constantly! Hopefully someone comes along with a good bedtime nappy suggestion Smile

Change it when you go to bed or add reusable nappy pants on top?

EnidFrighten · 01/10/2021 06:11

Poor you, that's no fun! Ideas -
Do you point his willy down before putting the nappy on? I think if it's lying upwards or to the side, there's less absorbency there.

Is he having a bit of a fiddle and that loosens his nappy? An all in one suit or popper vest under PJ's might help.

At 2.5 he might like sitting on the potty or loo with a toddler seat before bed, even if he's not ready for daytime potty training yet. Make a big fuss of him if he does a wee.

I'd also drop the milk or have it a bit earlier. I've always been confused about milk and tooth brushing as well, if he has it after tooth brushing it might harm his teeth?

I had to size down in nappies to stop this as it was too big on the leg and leaking out there.

Mrsweasleysclock · 01/10/2021 06:29

We had the same issue when DS was a toddler. We changed brand to the lidl lupilu nappies and they worked so well!!

mayblossominapril · 01/10/2021 06:33

Lidl nappies are best for evenly distributing the wee. A slightly too small nappy with a slightly too big one over the top works.

I think PigletJohn is good at identifying leak problems. Grin

Are you still using vests/bodysuits with poppers? I found if they were too tight it caused leaks.

sexesam · 01/10/2021 06:47

We had this, wet bed every morning. We concluded that my DD was holding in her wee and then not making it until morning and it was too much for the nappy to cope with in one go.
I think we had already started potty training so we stopped fluid after 6 (7pm bed time) and got her up when we went to bed around 10/11, to go for a wee. It didn't always stop the damp bed but it did put it back later most of the time.

SylvanasWindrunner · 01/10/2021 06:53

We sometimes double nappy, literally just put another nappy on top, if she's had a lot to drink just before for some reason.

turboh · 01/10/2021 07:29

Nappies totally saturated. Think they leak because they're at full capacity rather than leaking from side /poor fit. He wears a popper fastened vest so he can't get to nappy to move it around. They're new vests and not too tight.

He has milk after bath and pjs. His teeth are brushed after that for the poster who was worrying about teeth....!!

I may try and do bottle a bit earlier, maybe before bath. And like the idea of trying to do wee in potty before bed. That's a good way to lead into potty training which I will try to attempt in the next few months!

Also will try to find a lidl for their nappies too! I will try anything as it's no fun for anyone waking up at 5am everyday!! Thanks for suggestions

If saturated, then it sounds the same as us! We've ended up doing another nappy change last last thing before he settles down even if the previous one doesn't have much in it, if there's any wee, we change it. We have slightly reduced the quantity of milk. This combo seems to have worked.

The obvious thing is next size up which you've already tried.

How much water/fluid is he having in the run up to bedtime? Obviously you don't want to dehydrate him but it sounds like the cause may be more than just the bedtime milk (just trying to think logically)?

Wagglerock · 01/10/2021 10:23

I used to change my DS while he was asleep when I went to bed and that did till morning most days. That was the only thing I found that worked.

T0rt0ise · 01/10/2021 19:03

I'd drop the milk. I was really worried about it with my 18mo who loved milk (was regularly drinking nearly a liter a day!) but we went cold turkey and offered him porridge the first couple of nights as an alternative but we're now three weeks later and I only offer porridge if he's not eaten much dinner and he's not in the least bothered!
