Sorry, quick question about sleep sacks?

Super quick question. Never used a sleep sack. Swaddled her when she was a newborn. But stopped when she rolled
Got given a few and forgot about them..house is freezing and as we all know gas and electric prices are sky high so figured I'd put one on her to keep her warm. She has a vest, babygrow and a sleep sack.
Her feet don't touch the end..is that okay? Also she sleeps face down like a plank, is she ok to do this in a sleep sack? Her arms are free. It's like a big sleeping bag but with holes for her arms. I've fastened it right up to her neck. Is that okay?
Sorry stupid questions. Last year when it got colder she was still very little and was in a next to me cot.

How old is she?

Imabitbusyatthemoment · 28/09/2021 18:54

Sounds fine. As long as her head can’t slip down through the head hole it’s all good, their feet don’t need to teach the end. In fact, it’s better if they do t as they last longer.
Sleep sacks are the cutest. Mine wore them until the moved into proper beds.

GloomAndDoom · 28/09/2021 18:55

And can she roll both ways?

If she can't roll both ways you are supposed to try and get her to sleep on her back but I know that's hard!

What tog is the sleep sack? There should be a guide online somewhere to what to dress them in for the tog and the temp of your room.

So shes about to go 13 months. Shes in a 1 tog one which is a little lower than recommended according to the guide. But I don't have the next tog up. She has no chance of getting her head thru the hole 😂

Sounds good. Better to dress them cooler than warmer I find. Yeah its just the head vs hole to check. My LO was rolling around in hers at that age and often slept on her front.

She will be fine in that for now but depending on how cold your house is, you may need to go up to 2.5 tog. In the winter mine have always worn a vest, sleepsuit and 2.5 tog sleeping bag unless it’s a very mild night in which case you can either swap down to the 1 tog again or miss out a layer of clothing. Eldest still has a sleeping bag at nearly 3 as she kicks off a duvet —just like she kicks me in the head if we cosleep— but she wears pyjamas underneath.

Findahouse21 · 28/09/2021 19:04

As long as she can't get her arms or head into the holes then she should be fine - dd sleeps face down just like me! If she's particularly petite framed but long, you can get ones with an extra popper under the armpits to make the arm hole smaller

I am waiting for payday to go stock up before the winter comes. I'm going to get one or two in each tog. Only problem with our house, lovely and roomy and nice sized but when it gets cold it gets cold and I want to try reduce the amount we use the heating. Tbh tonight was mainly about seeing if she would tolerate it as well. I've got some long sleeves vests ready for winter and she still wears babygrows for bed.

I would just get 2.5 togs for now
They are absolutely fine for most of the year.

Dd 15 weeks is in vest, sleepsuit and 2.5 tog bag tonight.

Pickle2021 · 28/09/2021 19:57

My LO is still in 1 tog sleeping bag with vest and pj top and bottoms and seems fine. Never cold 🤷🏼‍♀️ were sitting at just over 21 degrees too.
Best to be a bit chilly then too hot. As other pp have said as long as sleeping bag doesn't slip over head and arms aren't too big it's all good.

We Brought ours from asda (2 for 24 quid I think) and she's 7 months and has to be in 12 to 18 sizes or she have like 1 inch gap at bottom so we added poppers for under arms and neck seems fine. Best to be bit bigger.

It's a bit trial and error I think with sleeping bags and what to wear.

Aria2015 · 28/09/2021 20:02

That should be fine. She might be a bit chilly in a 1 tog though. I always added a layer / tog to the recommended guide because mine would always wake about 4am / 5am cold. Currently my 1 year old is in a 2.5 tog with a short sleeve vest and PJ long sleeve top and the room is 21c. I always go to 3.5 tog with sleeves in winter because they always wake cold in 2.5 tog.

Bobholll · 28/09/2021 21:58

What have you been using since you stopped swaddling? Sleep sacks are the safest thing you can put your child in as they cannot physically go above their heads. Both mine were in them from 3/4 months old to age 2. At age 2, we moved to a bed & duvet.

You want a 2.5 tog in Autumn/Winter. I’ve even used 2.5 through various parts of summer. In winter, I do vest, long sleeve pyjamas & sleeping bag. Both my girls like to be cosy & warm. We have the heating on very low in winter overnight.

Bobholll · 28/09/2021 22:00

Check out Vinted or Ebay or Depop for some great second hand sleeping bags! I’ve never bought brand new, second hand, good quality baby stuff is my thing. Saves a fortune!

foreverinadaze · 30/09/2021 16:39

Back again. Bought a 2.5 tog one today in 12 to 18 months. She woke us up crying last night cos she was cold. It looks absolutely massive. It's definitely gonna be ok? Her head and arms can't get thru the holes but the length is huge. Didnt want to get a 6 to 12 month one. Cos there expensive and they won't last 2 moments. Our house is freezing so trying to reduce heating bills but keeping her warm. Sorry I'm a worrier!

Don’t worry about her feet not touching the end she will be fine as long as her head won’t slip through, my little boy (12 months) finds it much comfier having room to move his legs! Aldi have sleeping bags online at the moment, they’re only ten pounds each and nice and cosy xx

Noogar · 30/09/2021 18:55

The length is fine as long as you are sure head can't go though/down so it's covered
