How long should an afternoon nap last for

Hi wise mums
My 8 months old naps are very random and I don't know if that's ok, first time mum. His nap in the morning is between 30-45 mins and afternoon one anything between 30mins and 2 and half hours. Mostly he only has 2 naps now. If he has a long nap he's still really tired and he'll have another one about 5ish for 20 mins. What I'm asking really is how long should his afternoon nap be for? I know it should be long one but how long is long lol

@Tbird5
What time does he get up at in the morning.

Tbird5 · 27/09/2021 14:51

Anything between 6 and 7. His morning nap is at 9.

I think every baby is different so it's a hard question to answer. You have to just go by what he needs really. My 7.5 month old has 2 naps a day, of 2 hours each. And sleeps 20:00-7:00.

At 8 months:

Nap at 9 for 45min(ish), up to 1hr

Post lunch nap at 12 for 2.5hr hours.

Bed time at 7.

There is no length. It should be what he needs. You can't make him nap for longer than he naps anyway. Don't get too hung up on what you think you 'should' be doing and just go with what your baby needs.

That's pretty much what happens. Only that quite often he's tired and will have another 20 mins nap about 5ish. I just wondered if his afternoon nap was a bit wrong. Thank you for replying x

I think more than 2hrs can start to mess with night time sleep. What you are doing sounds great.
