would have to be wir zeichneten

debinaustria · 06/12/2007 11:10

thank you, how about lesen?

SSStollenzeit · 06/12/2007 11:10

Could you imagine ever saying though: du zeichnetest?! I'm sure I'd find a way around using it.

he's only in 2 Klasse, I am normally 1 step ahead of him with his german but he's leaving me behind!!

SSStollenzeit · 06/12/2007 11:11

Are you practising the past tenses? Lesen is irregular so it's ich las and so on.

debinaustria · 06/12/2007 11:11

is it
ich lese
du lesst? or lest
sie lest
wir lesen

OP posts:
debinaustria · 06/12/2007 11:12

no present tense

adventkerzylin · 06/12/2007 11:12

What year is he in? Here in Berlin dd has just started that sort of thing in year 3 - just wanting to compare really.

adventkerzylin · 06/12/2007 11:13

Oops, I typed that slowly!

SSStollenzeit · 06/12/2007 11:13

Geez mine's in year 2 as well but thank heavens we're not doing that.

at these Austrian schools! But then I remember you get all these extra holidays for skiing and things.

debinaustria · 06/12/2007 11:14

so is lesen right?

OP posts:
SSStollenzeit · 06/12/2007 11:16

oh ok, reason I asked was the first one zeichnete etc was the past tense. If you want the present, it's ich zeichne, du zeichnest, er/sie zeichnet, wir zeichnen

lesen: ich lese, du liest, er liest, wir lesen

Think you'll have to go and buy a German grammar if this is what you're expected to do for homework, eh?

finknottle · 06/12/2007 11:16

Get "501 German Verbs" from Amazon. American and old-fashioned (needs an update) but invaluable for lesen/las etc.

Present right?

ich lese
du liest
er liest
wir lesen
ihr lest
sie lesen

zeichnete is imperfect.
ich zeichne is present.

debinaustria · 06/12/2007 11:17

aargh - I'm in serous trouble now - he's written it in his book

OP posts:
adventkerzylin · 06/12/2007 11:18

The Duden books on grammar are really good. We have a few of them.

SSStollenzeit · 06/12/2007 11:19

rip out the page?

finknottle · 06/12/2007 11:19

If anyone knows a better book than 501, let me know!
Had a great grammar one - must look it out.
501 lives in our kitchen and is invaluable for arguments with ds2 about imperfects:
schaffen/schuf - he just doesn't believe me

debinaustria · 06/12/2007 11:27

Thank you so much for your help, will definitely get the book

I assumed this level of work was the norm in the 2nd class. I have to admit I hate the days his homework is Deutsch!!

So last one is hoeren (english keyboard)
hoere
hoerst
hoert
hoeren?

OP posts:
debinaustria · 06/12/2007 11:29

it's ok, I found that on the web

thanks again

what would I do without mumsnet

debinaustria · 06/12/2007 11:33

just wondering how the amount of homework varies between schools - today he's had to build verbs from 2 halves - 9 verbs in total, then write them in his book twice, then conjugate 6 verbs (those I had problems with)and write them out,
now he has to write our 6 sentences putting in the right verb.

He will also have reading - about an a4 length story., usually with no pictures - such a boring book!!

My German grammar books are in a box in the cellar. So I need to bring them up by the sounds of things Hmmm

I have the 501 in the cellar somewhere. Beats fussing about figuring out which verb is conjugated the same as which other verb.

Remember too from my German classes way back a list with verbs we had to learn off by heart like Lesen - las - gelesen, schlafen - schlief - geschlafen and so on. Actually I think in retrospect it was quite helpful.

SSStollenzeit · 06/12/2007 11:36

What time does school finish Deb? Those half-day schools that close at lunchtime generally do give a fair amount of daily homework. Are they maybe giving your ds extra German or something?

debinaustria · 06/12/2007 11:38

he finishes at 12 most days, and 1.00 on 1 day. today he finishes at 10!!! as then it's religion which he doesn't do(very intense RC not multi faith) then an extra class for those who need to catch up, which he sometimes stays for but not every week.

OP posts:
SSStollenzeit · 06/12/2007 11:39

Think that's about the standard amount of homework for that type of school Deb.

Hoeren looks right to me.

adventkerzylin · 06/12/2007 11:40

Wow, deb, my 2 are in year 3 and 4 in Berlin and they rarely get homework like taht. It worries me when I hear how much other dc are getting.

Typical week for year 3 dd: They get a Gedicht der Woche given on a Monday and they have to copy it into their book by Friday so about 4 to 5 lines a day then maybe twice a week a page of maths in the style of do the sums then colour the picture accordingly (68=blue, 99=red etc)

That's it and ds in year 4 gets even less than that. His German teacher does work which I think is year 2 or 3 level at the most. That's why we sit most weekends and do school work. It's like homeschooling 'on the side' really.
