Metanium advice anyone?

Just used this today as DD has really horrid nappy rash which won't go away with Zinc and Castor oil.
After her bath, she had little white patches where her rash had been worst and where most of the metanium had been. Tried to remove gently with cotton wool but wouldn't budge so didn't try very hard as her little bot is so sore.
Is this normal?
Thanks in advance if you can help!

could it be thrush?

Twiglett · 10/11/2004 19:22

sounds like thrush .. use canestan cream .. works a treat .. thin layer .. and can use barrier cream on top .. should clear up in a couple of days

Her bum went red then shiny in parts - looked very sore. The white bits only appeared after she had been in the bath. Does that sound like thrush? HAdn't thought of that ...

does sound like thrush///metanium noramlly works very quickly if it is going to work - usually within 24 hours for ds///

if the metanium is not coming off - try a little olive oil or something along those lines to clean it off.. and yes it does sound like thrush.

Metanium is a great barier cream, however i wouldnt use it on raw areas as it feels like it burns and is very uncomfortable. I would also suggest that you try canestan cream as this will sooth and get rid of candida type bugs. Have you tried sudocrem, this always workes overnight for my DS. Poor little DD, give her big huggsx

Thanks everyone, will be out tomorrow morning buying some canestan cream.
Hope it clears up quickly, poor little poppet.

A brick red rash (often with satelitte lesions)around the nappy area that does not improve with metanium is most likely to be thrush. Try Caneston 1% cream. You will need to use it for 7-10 days even if the rash appears to have healed otherwise it tends to come back.

I've been using terry nappies without nappy liners up until now. I've recently started weaning dd and am using Cotton Bottoms disposable liners. However, after only a few days of using these dd has a very sore bottom. I've been scrupulous about nappy changes and use metanium and so I've come to the conclusion that the liners are the problem. Is anyone able to suggest alternatives?

DD is not much better today - the main problem is she has the squits! She keeps passing little bits of yellow runny poo every hour or so. I'm changing her nappy as soon as she's "finished" and only using water and cotton wool, no wipes. But she's crying every time I go near the sore bits.
Earlier I ran a shallow bath and washed her in there. She was much happier but it is such a fiddle getting her completely undressed.
I've got some chamomile baby balm which she seems to find quite soothing and I've put some metanium on top of that, as I think it was stinging her when out straight onto her skin.
When she wakes up, I'll pop out for some canestan cream.
Worried though that the basic problem is the poo. She seems off her food today but quite happy / healthy otherwise.
She has been eating quite a lot of pureed fruit recently and I wonder if that has disagreed with her.
I just wish it weren't so much of a guessing game!
Again, thanks for all the advice guys.
