1yo smiles more for strangers than for me

It's most apparent on the swings in the park - if there's another parent pushing their baby on the swing next to us DD will stare at them and smile, and completely ignore me Sad. It's not a new thing either, she's always been like this. I'm in no way a "natural" when it comes to parenting (older mum, was never broody with other people's children and didn't have much experience before having my own) but I love my daughter more than anything in the world and try my best to be fun and engaging.

How worried should I be? And is there anything I can do about it?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SaltySheepdog · 23/09/2021 04:29

It’s normal. Just have fun and don’t worry about it

thatsnotmyzoo · 23/09/2021 04:30

Another one who says normal.

Really? I don't notice the other babies looking at me the way that DD looks at their mums.

My DD is like this too. I find it quite difficult to feed her when we are out of the house because she's far too busy turning around and smiling at everyone. We have a great bond (as im sure you do with your DD), she is just very curious and loves the novelty of new people. I'm not worried and would prefer that to a baby that screams at the sight of a stranger.

pompomsgalore · 23/09/2021 06:59

Are you smiling at her OP?
You sound like a lovely mum so I'm sure you are.

Maybe your little one just likes the novelty of unfamiliar people. She sounds very sociable. How lovely.

@pompomsgalore I try to as much as possible but tbh I'm not a naturally smiley bubbly person - I have a bit of a resting bitch face if I'm not concentrating on looking cheery! While she's swinging I say "weeee" and tickle her feet etc but she's generally not that interested and prefers to people watch...

You're there all the time, she's out having fun watching all the strange people - much more interesting/fun. If she needs anything it'll still be her mum she goes to.

My son was the same at that age. They're probably just sick of looking at our face all day 🤣

He's 3.5 now and a complete mummy's boy

pompomsgalore · 23/09/2021 09:16

Also why look at your face. They can see you whenever they like. They need to check out the strangers whilst they can.
