Hi my ebf baby 5 months has always fed the whole night if I roll over away from him slightly he wakes straight away until I feed again this goes on the whole night. I am feeding him all throughout the day too I am trying to get him to feed as much as possible through day to reverse day to night but no luck! Health visitor repeatedly says reflux but even when I have tried medication he still does this. He is my 3rd child thankyou for any suggestions

That sounds hard. I'm assuming that you've tried all of the usual stuff like a dummy and white noise?

Amz6219 · 21/09/2021 15:39

Is he actually feeding?

My son would do this but wasn't feeding, just sort of messing! Dummy worked.

Will he take a dummy?

Than you for taking the time to respond yes I have tried a dummy he spits it out on repeat unfortunately! I play white noise also to block out any other noise really.

Has anyone had this with reflux baby?

Yes, my daughter. Feeding was her only comfort and she suffered really badly with silent reflux and tongue tie - fed basically all night. We tired various medications both prescription and over the counter but nothing worked except time and her getting bigger. I think by six months she had improved and getting her tongue tie snipped also really helped.

It's super hard though and I feel for you, it does get better though but they do in my experience just have to grow out of it 😬

Interestingly at almost 3 she recently told me her tummy hurt when she was little..... Could just be something she's heard or put bits of sentences together to form something else or maybe she does remember - I don't know 🤷

Fartymcfart · 21/09/2021 21:48

Yes I have a 9 week old who is the same during the night, he isn't necessarily feeding but he doesn't unlatch.
He also shows signs of silent reflux

Mattiemummy thats really interesting that your little girl was the same and also had silent reflux I have wondered if the two were connected looks like it is, aww for her to say she remembers the tummy pain makes it so hard to think that babys cant tell us what they are going through. The hardest part of it is the back pain from lying on my side all night I roll away thinking yes he has latched off for him to flap about as though he's starving 🤦‍♀️

I remember the days.... Someone suggested I cut out dairy from my diet as she might be dairy intolerant. I never bothered (still feel a bit guilty but I was so very tired and it seemed like such an effort) but she's clearly not dairy intolerant now so maybe it would have been zero help but you could try it perhaps?

This could just be a complete coincidence but she was and still is actually very clingy. It's fine and lovely in some ways / tough in others and this is just a small sample but the other silent reflux ebf baby I know is also still pretty clingy at two......So you might have a future limpet on your hands 😉

I was also going to suggest reducing gassy foods or dairy too as that helped settle silent reflux.

I think he's using your boob as a dummy. To him it's a comfort as doesn't sound like he's feeding all night from it.
I ebf 2 babies and 1 had a dummy and 1 didn't. They both liked to fall asleep on the boob but once they were asleep I'd remove it. Is that what you do?
Could be reflux. I remember 5 mo the being quite a difficult time. I waited until 6 months to wean both times then noticed they had slightly less boob as they had started the eat.

Thank you to everyone who replied I really appreciate it the help, I don't eat any dairy as I'm on the candida diet(breast thrush) unfortunately I have to live on this diet while breastfeeding and I've cut spices out as (i think) they affected his reflux, @Mattieandmummy yes I think you are right I may have a clingy koala on my hands he does not like to be put down that may be a big part of it actually 🤣 @MondeoFan no i don't remove my boob when he is sleeping I've always worried he is hungry but I will try that tonight see how we go maybe is a case of me just keeping on doing that.
