Taxis with a toddler

Firstly...I’m very well aware that this is probably a ridiculous question 🙈 it’s just only popped into my head and I genuinely have no idea!

Attending a wedding next year with DH and DS (will be 2 at the time). Venue accommodation is fully reserved for family so have booked into the nearest hotel which is 5 miles away 👍🏻 What is the protocol for getting taxis between the hotel and venue with a toddler?! How does it work with a car seat? I’m not a big drinker anyway - would probably have had 2 or 3 at most through the day, especially with DS, so happy just to not have any and drive ourselves between but I’m just interested as to what the situation is with taxis 🤷🏻‍♀️ (Would be a saloon style car rather than a black cab if that makes any difference!)

Genuinely don't know the answer to that one sorry OP.

In London my son just stayed in his pram and that seems to be the (not very safe) norm. If you can I'd take a car seat or drive but best to ring companies and check.

There is no legal requirement for there to be car seats on taxis so they would just be in normal seat

I don't drive so have looked into this before. No legal requirement for children to be in car seats in taxis. However it is up to the taxi driver to decide whether he wants to take the child without a car seat. So definitely double check with the local taxi firm before assuming it's okay.

I haven't actually taken a taxi as I am not 100 comfortable with him not being in a car seat in a car.

Thanks for the replies 😊 I did read online that there was no legal requirement for the seat - I just wasn’t sure what was normal protocol 🤣 Last time I was in London I seen people in the back of a black cab with baby in the pram which I wasn’t overly sure about! Wasnt sure about in a normal taxi!

I’m definitely not comfortable with him being in a car without a car seat and I don’t fancy having to cart a big car seat into a wedding or have them store it for me so I will just drive us along 😊

You could ring the local taxi companies and see if any will provide a car seat as I've heard on here of some doing that, but personally not sure I'd feel comfortable with a god knows how old, god knows how much used car seat like that anyway. We have always chosen to get hackney carriages so we could keep DD strapped in her buggy. Unless we were going somewhere where we could easily take the car seat, e.g visiting a relative or something. Personally I don't feel comfortable with travelling in a car without a car seat or at least having her strapped into the buggy in a hackney carriage, but some people do. Never get taxis anymore though as we got a car a few months ago and though I don't drive DD is good at bus journeys now.

I always just put dd on my knee and when she was about 3 started putting her on her own with adult seat belt on.
You can of course take your own car seat or if you ask when you phone up then they might have a driver with a car seat available.
