Nursery not using app?

DC started nursery this week. The documentation they sent out asked me to download an app so they can keep me updated with observations. However this is the fourth day that nothing has been put in the app. I don’t know if my DC is eating, what they’re doing, etc. My SIL gets multiple daily updates from her nursery telling her what her son is doing, who he’s playing with, whether he’s been kind to friends or used the loo, etc. AIBU to have a word with them about it?

Our pre school used Tapestry, and updated with things the children had been up to in the day, photos and videos. Not food/drink/toilet stuff though. I would (when they were younger, 2ish) ask at pick up if they'd had a good day, anything to report etc.

If your ds has just started this week I'd expect some feedback.

Parents aren’t allowed inside because of Covid, we have to stand on the grass outside.

I’m surprised they’re still doing this, since restrictions are now so relaxed? Is this typical?

At a minimum I would expect to know what they’ve eaten, how long they slept, and depending on age, nappies.
We also are not allowed in the nursery but get a verbal debrief at pick up. Tapestry updates are irregular so I do make sure I ask at pick up, if I wasn’t getting this info I would definitely be raising it with the management

I'd ask. If you were getting a verbal handover then that would be ok but you aren't

Our nursery uses EY log and it is updated at the end of the day every day. It’s brilliant, much better than the verbal handover used to be
I had a few teething problems getting it to update in the first place so maybe it’s something like that. They had to enable my account or something

We’re allowed into the nursery as normal now, just need to use hand sanitizer on the way in

Our nursery said they were keeping parents outside as it just made hand over time easier, no wandering parents, no front doors left open etc.

The online app, in my experience, isn’t updated every day it’s more for observations in their learning development. What they eat and how they sleep will either be passed on verbally, on a paper sheet or on a white board daily.
This is the opposite of my experience. I get a daily diary every day which tells me sleep times, what my DS has eaten, nappies and little bit about his day. Observations are perhaps once or twice a week.

@RosyPoesy

Ok thanks. I wasn’t sure whether this was normal or not. It seems I was expecting too much from the app because I thought I’d get daily updates. But I should be getting some sort of debrief, not via the app but verbally at least.
I get regular, daily updates and find it extremely useful. Breakfast, lunch, tea, nap times, nappy changes, and a collection of pictures at the end of the day. Sometimes there is stuff missing like breakfast not updated or nappy not logged but I get that there's just no time for everything all the time. I'd definitely say something if they left everything blank for days on end though, especially if there's no chance to catch up on collection!
TheRebelle · 16/09/2021 20:13

With our nursery the key worker would upload a little update but the office staff had to approve it before it would send to us so we’d often get the updates a day or two later.

Yeah we're not allowed in either. To be honest I think most nurseries will keep it this way now as we've been told the children are actually much more settled if their parents aren't there.

My son’s nursery has just started using Tapestry and they said they would put updates once or twice a week.
At the end of the day I get a rundown of what he’s done/eaten/pooped/napped that day.

Bobholll · 16/09/2021 22:29

I’ve had kids at 2 nurseries with apps. One used it in place of a hand over sheet. We got brief daily updates. What they’d eaten, napped, played with. Once a month there’s be some photos & assessment.

The other nursery only updated once a month (if that). We had a handover at the door but it was pretty minimal. No-one ever knew what she ate 🙄 I was never very impressed but DD had a fab time so that’s the main thing!
