1 year old hernia

My 16 month old DS was diagnosed with a hernia last week after I took him to the doctor with swollen looking testicles. We have just had a referral come through for a peadeatrician appointment in 4 weeks time, where the GP says they'll likely send him for a scan. The GP said he may not need an operation, but then he gave me a leaflet that made it sound like he most likely would.

I just wandered if anyone else had any experience. Is it likely to be hurting him? He has been pretty grouchy recently, but I had mostly put it down to the frustration of trying really hard to talk combined with teething. But now I'm wandering if it is actually this hurting him.

Is it likely to continue to get worse and worse until it's treated? I'm worried it's going to be ages until he can get treatment due to Covid and that he could be in a lot of pain by then.

I would really welcome anyone else's experiences of this. I'm feeling a bit apprehensive, and it feels like a long wait until we see the consultant.

No experience sorry Baffled.

Hopefully someone will be along soon.

Both mine had inguinal hernias - DS1 had 2 ops (one on each side) and DS2 1. Again it coincided with teething so it's very hard to tell if it bothered them. We did end up in A&E with DS1 as we were concerned it was strangulated, but fortunately not.

The surgery was day surgery, when it finally happened.

Hope they see you soon.
