Trackers on Schoolwear?

Some of the parents at school have said that they have attached trackers onto the children's more expensive items such as their coats.

Items do go missing quite often and it's a lot of money, I get that, but all I can think is that I feel very uncomfortable with my child being tracked by another parent if they happen to take the wrong coat off the hook.

I suppose that they'd essentially know where we live too, not that I like to live anonymously but I like the opportunity to choose for myself who to invite around etc.

I've known some of the mums for a while and I don't want to fall out with anyone but opinions seem to be quite polarised and I feel strongly enough about it that I want to contact the school to try and force the issue.

I'm wondering how polarised the internet mums opinions are?

I put a tracker on ds’s PE bag and his school bag. I can well understand it if it’s one of those schools where everything has to be logo.

Utterly ridiculous. They are basically tagging their children. I doubt that losing the clothes has anything to do with it....

Sounds awful!!

The tracker was linked to ds’s phone. If his stuff got “accidentally” taken he could track it and ping it.

How often do your dc bring home the wrong bag/coat? The odd PE shirt or jumper sometimes but not a bag or coat. If you get fairly distinctive bag/ coat then your dc shouldn't pick up the wrong one and should be easy to track them down. It has worked for me without tracking them. I am not sure about the wider issue of having trackers in general but you can do what you can to minimise the risk of being tracked.

My kids have never accidentally taken home anyone else's bag or coat - is that really a worry?

Ironically, if you buy your DC unbranded, cheaper (but still perfectly practical) coats etc, they are far less likely to be taken - especially in secondary.

Comefromaway · 14/09/2021 22:30

The coats my kids had to have were branded school logo.

Ah ok if is linked to his phone, that seems fair enough as uniform is bloody expensive! I thought it was just a way for parents to stalk their teenagers. Let's face it, most of us want to know what they are up to but still....

My DC have never bought someone else's coat home- but DS has managed to lose enough coats and PE bags with decent trainers in to annoy me. I'd happily put a tracker in his coat.

I put a tracker on DDs flute case, I can't afford for her to lose it.

If you don't want your child tracked OP, make sure they don't come home in someone else's coat, or with someone else's flute.

It's not as simple as that. Do you really want children to get used to being tracked? Think about whether you want to live in a society where we are all tracked and the implications of that,
