Hand foot and mouth?

DD is 11 months and I suspect HFM.
She's been coughing but every time she coughs she cries so I suspect a sore throat. She's also not eating or drinking her milk (prob due to sore throat) and she was running a temp last night which came down with calpol but she was waking every hour of the night!

She has tiny blisters on her thumb and some spots around her mouth

Does this sound like HFM to you?
Going to keep an eye on it and see if the spots/blisters get worse but I know there's nothing I can give her other than pain relief :(

I caught this as an adult - don't know how I missed this as a child. I felt absolutely awful and had ulcers in mouth and chicken pox type spots on hands. I nearly fainted on the bus it came over me so quickly. So if you suspect it go for a full calpol/ ibuprofen regime!

Yes it does sound like it, sorry. Usually much worse in adults than DC but it’s not fun for DC either. Definitely calpol and nurofen, as often as permitted, alternate them if necessary.

Sounds like what my DS was like when he had it. Hope she is better soon

I definitely think it is HFM now as she's gotten more blisters on her fingers which are white in the centre and more have cropped up around her mouth

For gods sakeeeeeee!! When will the constant colds and germs from nursery stop!!?? Sad

I had never heard of hfm until ds1 caught it at 11 months. I thought he had been possessed as he cried and wailed for hours. ( he wasn’t a happy baby though but this was a new level). He had quite a severe case and needed cream for his blisters they were everywhere apart from his chest and back. His arms, legs, hands and feet including the soles were covered. I took him to the GP as I was clueless and she looked in his mouth and they were blisters in the roof of his mouth and inside his cheeks. He lived on cold ice cream & jelly and homemade smoothies for nearly two weeks. DH caught it and was unwell, completely sidelined him for a fortnight. I was 8 months pregnant and seemed to escape it. Dc2 & 3 both caught it when about 2 but thankfully not as affected. The worst was their nails fell off after a few weeks, wasn’t prepared for that. Lots of paracetamol, if hungry cold soft food and lots of fluid. It’s a bloody awful illness, Hope she feels better OP.
