Baby bed

Does anyone know is there such a thing as a baby crib that's bigger than a Moses basket but smaller than a cot??

We currently have a Moses basket which is getting too small but in a few months we will be moving so didn't want to build the cot yet. We were hoping to find something that would last until about 7/9 months.

Are next to me cribs bigger? My baby is nearly 4 months and nearly 9lb dunno if this makes a difference

Thanks for any help

Could you use a travel cot?

mutedrainbows · 12/09/2021 15:14

Next to me cribs are definitely bigger than Moses baskets and smaller than cots! You could look into a mini cot as well.

I personally would build the cot and go straight into that so you don't have to get him used to a new bed twice.

Cots only take about 8 screws to build, they're easy enough to take down for when you move. Otherwise a travel cot might be an option.

To last until 9 months is tricky because by then they will probably be pulling to stand and could even be walking so really it needs to be a proper cot, not something like a next to me. As PP says the cot is only about 8 screws so it’s not as difficult as you might think to take it apart and reassemble. If it will fit I’d use the cot now. If you’re short on space then I’d get a travel cot since they’re handy to have anyway.

I'd just build the cot, even I can put ours up and down in about 15 minutes and most of that is me swearing at the Allen key.

It'll help when you move if baby is going into a bed they're already familiar with and I don't think you'll get enough use of out a next to me to warrant buying one, unless you're planning on having another child?

If you wanted a next to me bed, try the babylo one. Decent size and not hugely expensive, the side can be zipped up too. My baby much preferred this to the moses basket. Or if you have room put the cot in your room.

If you don't want to have to build the cot then I'd probably get a pop up travel cot that you can use from now until whenever

Thanks everyone I think maybe building the cot is the best option 🥰

Our baby was in the next to me until she could sit up properly so it wasn't safe. Then she went straight into a travel cot in our room, we bought a proper mattress so it's comfy. She is still sleeping in the travel cot now at 21 months

thesilver · 12/09/2021 21:04

There is a new product that might be suitable called 'next to me forever '.

ChannelJackieWeaver · 12/09/2021 21:05

We did a travel cot when too young to move to own room where the cot was but had outgrown the moses basket.

My DB and SIL were in exactly the same position and so decided to use a travel cot but found very quickly that it knackered their backs so just built the cot after a couple of weeks.

Thank you

I have a tutti bambini cozee which I think is bigger than a next to me crib. Essentially its the same thing but a different brand. My 3 month old is currently 13lb and will still fit in it for a while yet. Alternatively a travel cot.

Travel cot may be safer as once baby starts pulling themselves up to sit im not sure the next to me cribs are recommended .

I once put my DS in his old Next to Me when he was about 7/8 months and he was starting to pull himself up to standing only to see him pull himself up and topple headfirst over the edge. Luckily, he landed on a pile of clothes so was fine but it could have been horrible. The Next to Me went that day!
