Help! Very windy uncomfortable 1 month old.

My 1 month old has been a very windy/uncomfortable baby since birth! He was exclusively breastfed but now we combi feed. I breastfeed most the day and partner formula feeds or feeds expressed milk in the evening. I've changed bottles to TT anti colic bottles and also bought some cheap boots bottles someone recommended but still the problem persists. I've heard dr brown bottles are good but haven't yet bought one.

He is constantly grunting, going red, crying and then he pops off or poops and is calm but then 10 mins later it happens again.

We started on SMA formula and used infacol. We then upped the dose to 2 doses before feeds (as recommended on box) still the same!

We've now changed to cow and gate formula just Incase it's the sma. He's only been having that for 2 days now, but he's still the exact same. I've tried winding him in different positions, bicycle legs, massages on tummy and back... but nothing.

The noises he makes is so hard to hear and I feel helpless he goes soooo red and cries like he's in so much pain. I feel so bad :(

Any advice? Pretty please 🥺 🙏 desperate mummy over here.

We used Woodwards gripe water, can't remember if it's suitable from 4 or 6 weeks of the top of my head but it did seem to help a little.

SantoPalo · 11/09/2021 02:15

I've been using grip water since 1 month, think.its ok

Notapheasantplucker · 11/09/2021 02:30

I always used gripe water.
Have you tried to kind of lift his upper half up a bit while he's sat on your knee so he's sat really upright & then roll him around? Or backwards and forwards?
That's probably hard to imagine & I promise I wasn't just swinging my kids around Grin , but it used to work for them.

You probably already know this, but when you using formula you should give it 2 weeks to settle before changing to another brand or it can contribute to the uncomfortable poorly tummy!

@WutheringShites86 @SantoPalo @Notapheasantplucker

I haven't yet tried it but that may be my next option! Thank you!

And @Notapheasantplucker I do wind him like that yeh! Everyone looks at me funny but it does get those bubbles out lol and he does some great big burps! I don't know whether I should continue burping more? Usually I just wait for those couple of big burps then put him down? 🤔

@SoundAndVisions
Hiya! we've used sma since birth and changed to c&g beginning of this week.. so do you mean after two weeks of c&g that's when we may tell the difference if it's better or not?

I used dentinox for my daughter it was the only thing that worked, infacol made her worse .

@1990b I started with dentinox but everyone kept saying nooo infacol 🙈
I'm on second doses before each feed of infacol now so I'll see how we get on as it builds into his system! If it's still the same I'll try dentinox again. He does love the taste of infacol though it's so cute when I put it in his mouth and he licks it all up 😂

@Em45634 thanks for the message! Yep so upsetting breaks my heart! I'm glad to hear your LO is better now! I've been told as their digestive system matures it'll stop, so hopefully that's the case and maybe that's what's happening with your son

I used to do bicycle legs on dd but then I watched a video of someone doing it and I was doing it farrrr too lightly. No wonder she was still uncomfortable! May be worth looking in to that in case you're the same.

peanutbutterandbananas · 11/09/2021 22:31

I second bicycle legs, they really helped, and doing frog leg actions too (a YouTube can probably describe this better than I can Grin). A warm flannel on the tummy can be helpful. Good luck, hope little one is more comfy soon! I think it's developmental so every day their tummy grows and can handle things a bit better

SoundAndVisions · 11/09/2021 22:34

@lukiebebe yes that’s right, give it two weeks of the c&g and see how he’s doing after. I only say because we had formula ping pong a bit at the beginning due to allergies and each time we needed to wait the full 2 weeks to let each one “bed in” and see how our DS was responding.

It’s stressful though isn’t it? I remember the infacol-gripe water-bicycle legs-nothings helping-everyones frustrated cycle but it’s true when they say once their digestion system matures it stops being a problem. My DS is 15months and I can’t remember the last time I thought about trapped wind in his day to day routine. Hang in there!

I used this YouTube video as well and found it very helpful

lukiebebe · 12/09/2021 06:21

Thanks so much everyone very helpful tips!
Just watched the video and did a few of those massages etc on little one and we got a few farts hehe! Who'd have thought I'd be happy for my son to fart so much! Will deffo hang in there and hope it gets better as time goes on 🙏
Thanks again
