Anyone has the Joie Bold car seat?

Hi everyone, I’m looking to buy the Joie Bold for my very tall 2,5 year old toddler. He is 101cm and 15,8 kg. Someone on this forum gave me a great advise on a few car seats and I narrowed it down now to Joie Bold. Anyone has it? And are you happy with it?

We are happy with it but I’m sure there are some safety issue with forward facing using the hardness straps.

Thanks, in our case forward facing is the the only option and he has been forward facing since 18 months, so that’s not an issue for us

The problem is with forward facing and using the harness rather than seat belt strap. I think which? reported the problem. You can get trial membership with them for £1

I have it and the straps are an awful fiddly nightmare! I felt it was the safest option though (I thought front harnessed facing was considered safe 😳) which is why we went for it.

Yes absolutely a forward facing is safe from 15 months and especially with 5 point harness. In this specific seat you can use harness until 25 Kg which is amazing. Again the straps don’t bother me at all becouse we already have Joie 360 spin for him and we love it and are well used to the straps by now so all good on that front

It’s recommended to rear face for as long as possible (my son will be rear facing until at least 5). We used the Joie Bold temporarily and it’s a great car seat, especially as it has 3 points of safety (isofix, belt and tethered).

If you are set on using it, please make sure it is compatible with your car as not all car seats fit all cars. You can do this here: fitguide.joiebaby.com/#

The only reason we had to use it temporarily is because we had to borrow it from someone while we saved up the money to get a rear facing car seat

Thanks a lot, I will definitely make sure I’ll check your link. Yes I know it’s recommended but no way on earth my son would rear face!:) he would scream and climb out of the seat and get off the car😀 he is extremely intelligent and bright 2,5 year old and wants to see everything, he gives his dad directions and wants to see exactly where we are going. He’s been forward facing since 18 months and would never put him rear facing. But I agree with you it’s recommended absolutely

We have it!

Used from about 3.5 when DS outgrew his rear facing group 1 (he’s v long in the body) but wasn’t ready for a HBB. The harness and especially the bottom buckle pad was a bit annoying (I found that double looping the elastic helped to keep it on) and it is a beast of a thing but overall we’ve been pleased with it and it worked well for our particular situation. It was nice that it still reclined for car naps for younger children. We’re still using it as a HBB now he’s 6 and he’s never complained of being uncomfortable even on long journeys.

I think the potential safety issue referred to above is whether they’re safer using the seatbelt rather than the harness once they get past 18kg. Wasn’t an issue for us at the point when we bought it before DS wasn’t even close to18kg (and I suspect your DS isn’t either). With the bold you’ve got isofix, tether and the seatbelt holding the seat down (with the buckle holding the child) so I wasn’t unduly concerned, but we switched to HBB when he was 4.5-5 anyway.

I should add that the other advice (which you were probably given in your other thread) is that - even if they are 15kg - not to use a HBB with seatbelt until your child is 4-5 as their pelvis won’t have grown to right shape to stop them ‘submarining’ under the lap belt, plus they might not be mature enough to understand not to lean out of the belt/unclip it, etc. Which is all very unhelpful if your child doesn’t follow the usual centiles. The Bold is a good bridging solution if ERF isn’t practical for you.
