Hi, I will be phoning the dr tomorrow however just wanted to see if anyone else has been to the drs with this problem and what the solution was? I want to go to the dr with options so I don't get fobbed off! My DD is 8 months old and past 2 weeks or so has only had little pellets of stool but it's not bothered her but today twice now in space of a few hrs she's struggled passing her stool, twice now ive had to have her on her changing mat no nappy on and holding her legs up to her chest to help her push it out, whilst her screaming in pain Sad any advice please?

At this point I would call 111. Your baby probably needs to seen tonight.

Thankyou, she's absolutely fine now, she's in pain when she needs to pass stool. But fine once it's passed. If she gets uncomfortable through the night then I will phone 111 thanks

Natural remedies that usually work are pear or prune puree. But for her, it didn’t always work so doctor prescribed lactulose which gave her a belly ache so now she’s on movicol.

Lots of prune puree and water. When it was particularly bad I just went to the pharmacy and the pharmacist advised lactulose. I actually found it more important to figure out what particular foods were making the constipation worse - for us it was bananas and yoghurt - and reducing/eliminating those.

You can work on the foods but I think it’s important to get this sorted really quickly. The GP can prescribe lactulose or Movicol.

Young DC who struggle to poo can hurt themselves which can set up a withholding reflex. You really want to avoid that.
