Toddler always sick

Hi all.
My toddler started going to nursery around January 21. Since then he's coming home with a new cold or virus every other week.
If it's not a cough & cold, it's a rash , or fever and back to cough & another rash, mouth ulcers etc. Every other week he has to miss nursery due to being unwell.
Currently awake with a cough that won't let him sleep! It's been weeks!
Gp keeps saying that it's normal after lockdown for little ones to catch everything that's around. But seriously shouldn't he have some sort of immunity by now to some of these colds at least? Is this normal? I'm considering quitting my job and pulling him out of nursery. I haven't slept in months! Every night he's down with some virus or cold or a rash...
anyone else's toddler/ DC going through the same?

That’s such a shame, I remember when my daughter first started nursery (some years ago now) I was told she’d catch everything going and it really is true.

They bring home so many bugs and viruses due to the mixing with other kids and being exposed to so many germs etc. I also feel hygiene isn’t the best amongst younger kids which doesn’t help does it.

Is there anything he could take to give his immune system a boost, a multi vitamin or something? Of course check with the GP/Pharmacy before you start anything.

Unfortunately it's just one of those things. My DC is the same and has been in nursery since April 2020, we're lucky if we have a couple of weeks with just a runny nose but they're in and out of the Dr with ear infections, rashes and all sorts. I think the general rule is that after a year (perhaps a bit longer due to not mixing for so long) the illnesses die down a bit and their immunity kicks in more. Hold in there!

Yeah it's so annoying and exhausting. When DS first started nursery he had conjunctivitis and hand, foot and mouth within the first fortnight. So far this year we've had RSV, multiple colds and Covid, poor baby DD has caught everything too. It does seem to be improving now after the post lockdown break though he's just moved up a class so I'm sure he'll be getting all lovely new germs from his new friends.

My DN is exactly like this. He's always got something bless him.

It's totally normal, but very wearing.

Yes! Lockdown baby here, we've had to do so many covid tests its heartbreaking.

Yep same here. DS started nursery in July and every week it's something different and then I always catch it so I'm constantly run down and looking after a poorly child. It's exhausting, you have my sympathy.

This is completely normal. It happened to my DS1 after he started nursery and I had forgotten how relentless it was. I'm currently sat on the sofa with DS2, he's been awake since midnight and only fell asleep an hour ago as he's sick again for about the third time since starting nursery 6 weeks ago, I swear it's like there's been a plague on my house and now he passes it on to his older brother - brilliant fun.

It really does get better and like with everything to do with parenting and mothering it becomes a distant memory and lures you into having another even though you probably shouldn't.

Thanks everyone. Woke up in a much better mood 😂
Sorry to hear that so many little ones are constantly poorly.. hopefully they'll all get a break soon. X
