Is this a tooth? 11 week old

Hi all, FTM here.

Over the last couple of weeks DD has started dribbling and chomping on her hands. I read that this can happen at this age as more of a developmental step as babies are discovering their hands. However, over the last couple of days she has been dribbling much more, has been really unsettled and putting her fists in her mouth a lot (but she’s not hungry). Today I noticed this little white dot on in the middle of her gum on the bottom (hard to get a pic!) could this be the first sign of a tooth? Completely new to this but can’t think what else they would be!

If so, does anyone have any recommendations to help soothe the discomfort? Most things I’ve seen seem to be for babies slightly older.

I personally don't think so from the pic...based on experience with my children and how they come through. Others may disagree. It would be highly unusual to get teeth this early but it is possible

In any case use, I use anbesol liquid or Ashton & Parsons sachets.

Could be - DD had her first tooth at 16 weeks.

Way too long ago to remember what we did to alleviate the pain though, sorry.

@Ldnmum7 yes I thought it would be really unusual to get teeth so early on which is why I’m dubious but wondering what else it could be. Thanks for the recommendations!

Difficult to tell from picture. It looks more like an Epstein Pearl or Bohns nodule. Both totally normal and fairly common in newborns. They are essentially developmental remnants left over from when the jaws develop in utero. Will gradually resolve over few weeks. It could be a natal tooth (around 0.5% babies develop them within the first year) but would be less likely. X

@Newmummyinlockdown ahh very interesting, hadn’t heard of those! Thank you!!

I don't think its a tooth as it's a bit to forward. Keep an eye for thrush too

Don’t think it’s a tooth. My DD had something similar at that age and didn’t get her first tooth until just after she turned 1 Grin

@roseswade my daughter had two very similar on her bottom jaw. I first noticed them when she was only 3 weeks old - doctor has confirmed they are teeth in our case. She said it's uncommon but not unusual for them to get teeth early. I was advised that it doesn't mean they will properly erupt yet and they might just sit in the gum for a while and the gum can often harden back over (which I think has happened in our case as one is much less visible now and she's 9 weeks). Really hoping they don't come through too early as she's breastfed 😱.
