Hi

Im due baby 2 in February and just starting to have a look at furniture. I already have a pram and next to me. I dont want to buy a moses basket if i dont have to. But unsure where to put baby during the day with a three year old running around.

Thanks :)

Travel cot. Great with a toddler as the toddler then can't reach baby if you pop to the toilet etc.

LakeShoreD · 07/09/2021 10:23

No way if you have a next to me crib! Put them in the pram for naps and maybe also consider a bouncer.

Second travel cot. Never had a moses basket for any of mine.

I did but it was a hand me down and honestly I'm so glad I had it. I had a next to me but that was for upstairs and I wasn't faffing around going up and downstairs all day.

Pram carrycot. No need to double up on that with a Moses basket too. I never had one.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 07/09/2021 12:06

I used the pram carrycot. Tbh moses baskets seem to be a thing of MN, none of my friends who have had babies used one.

lndnbrdge91 · 07/09/2021 12:08

I second the travel cot or using the pram. Particularly if you have another child, as a toddler cannot get to the baby in a travel cot.
Babies soon outgrow baskets, and I always think the straps to carry them look insubstantial.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/09/2021 12:10

I never used mine. Pram or travel cot.

Wagglerock · 07/09/2021 12:10

I found it really handy for my second, I think it's good to have lots of options of where to put baby during the day. I'm never organised enough to remember to get the pram out of the car boot if it's in there!

As long as you don't have a c-section, then a travel cot is fine. If you have a section, then it will hurt to much with the bending down as it is much deeper than a moses basket.

I had a csection and the pram carrycot was still fine.
Pickle2021 · 07/09/2021 16:45

I had a csection and therefore found moses basket invaluable. Though I would say she did grow out of it in 4 weeks. I would get a second hand one on market place so not spending lots of monies.

I use prams for naps now though!

Ldnmum7 · 07/09/2021 18:47

I have one. Used a bit with 1st baby and not at all with 2nd (except to store stuff!). If I put my dd in there, my toddler would try and grab the sides and I was too worried about him tipping her out. We used pram or Sleepyhead. Mostly she was in the sling so I could run after toddler

Fredsgirl19 · 07/09/2021 19:07

I didn't get one then I had a small baby who was too small for next to me so I did a next day delivery and she slept beautifully in it

yourestandingonmyneck · 07/09/2021 21:47

I had a Moses basket, never got used. You can just detach the bassinet from the pram wheels and use that.

Skybooks · 07/09/2021 21:50

Also due #2 in Feb and have next to me. I didn't have Moses basket with ds used pram bassinet on a stand downstairs and next to me upstairs.

I'm thinking I'll do the same this time.

Suzi888 · 07/09/2021 21:52

I had one, cheap, light weight, can move it anywhere with baby in, upstairs, downstairs, bathroom. Wouldn’t have been without it.

QueenFreesia2021 · 07/09/2021 21:54

We didn’t buy a Moses basket for dd2 and ended up having to buy one. She wouldn’t settle in the bigger cot and I missed having somewhere to put her down during the day - I walked a lot with the pram and didn’t want to bring it in to the living room with dirty wheels.

grannybee55 · 07/09/2021 21:55

Yes found mine really useful. More portable than a crib.

TheVolturi · 07/09/2021 21:56

All of mine slept best in the moses over cot/travel cot/crib. They're just cosier. Newborns don't like lots of space around them they have been used to being cramped inside you for 9 months. They are also so handy (light) to move from one room to the next. I would get a cheap one.

RandomCatGenerator · 07/09/2021 21:57

No, you don’t.

If you want somewhere to put the baby down when you’re doing other things, a Moses basket is a safe sleep environment - so you wouldn’t have to supervise the baby sleeping in it. But there are other options like ‘pods / nests’ (eg Purflo, Sleepyhead), playmats, bouncers that would also do the job. Although bouncer not so good until they’re bigger than newborn (in my opinion).

We have a Sleepyhead - it does the job you’re after really well. But it isn’t safe for unsupervised use - neither are bouncers, playmats etc - unlike a Moses basket.

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 07/09/2021 22:01

Moses basket is one of the only place ours sleeps. I think because she’s very small and the snuzpod seems massive she always thrashes around in it and ends up wonky / waking herself up.

Got it for free on Facebook though. And would never use the handles to carry it with baby in through.

MyMabel · 07/09/2021 22:02

I never got one, was repeatedly told they outgrow it so quickly that it’s pointless. I did get a hauk dreamer though that was ace for just popping her down in the front room while I made tea and what not. Bigger than a Moses basket though as it’s a travel cot but folds up really easy and thing to store away when not in use.

cafedesreves · 07/09/2021 22:05

I loved our Moses basket. He slept in it everywhere!
