That is it really, I am looking for a gps tracker which does not require the child to have a smart phone. If you have used one are the accurate?

How much do they cost? How do they work?

Do you not get watches with GPS features

jugglingjobs · 06/09/2021 07:37

Yes this is the kind of thing I was thinking, but just wondered if others have used them and if they are any good.

I saw one called kidsnav which looks quite good

I think tile do trackers where you put it on your keys (or a little ones coat zip) where I think you can track them online Curry's do them for 20 quid is a tile card thing which can be put in a wallet or purse in case you lose that too I'm not a stalker 🙄my 20yo tends to misplace everything 😂

We got this key ring one when my dad with dementia kept going out and getting lost.
Worked well. There is a button to press which will call a mobile phone in an emergency. Confused my dad somewhat when I started talking to him through the key ring!

I’m sure you can get dog and cat gps trackers that clip onto collars? Don’t know the distance they work at or anything though.

Guineapigbridge · 06/09/2021 19:10

Unethical unless you tell the person who is being tracked that they're being tracked.

Astella22 · 06/09/2021 19:15

Airtag would work, it’s very discreet but pricey

ufucoffee · 06/09/2021 20:20

I second Tile. Easy to use.

When you're kids are little you can get all singing and dancing shoes toys in the sole, flashing lights etc never understood how a shoe company hasn't thought of putting GPS into smaller kids shoes?I'd of paid Extra for it an app on your phone warning you when they move out of range and God forbid they wander off you can instantly see where they are .

As the OP Is talking about getting one for her child, I think she'll be ok

This one is good but you have to pay a monthly fee. My DC’s school don’t allow smart phones and they travel there by train so this helps me keep an eye on them.

@Clymene depends on the child's age.

Toddler fine ( - though why would you need one as they should always be with an adult), secondary aged child not fine. In the middle grey area.

I was going to suggest a pet one. Same technology but cheaper. Tractive is very good and costs about £5 per month. The unit itself is guaranteed with free replacements.

Hi red no I mean small kids they literally are like ninjas....you say ok hold the pram...you bend down for some garden pea s turn back and are off down the aisle 🙄 while your juggling a pram a basket running after them it's like a dodgy version of supermarket sweep!!

Well yes although I'd imagine most secondary age children have phones. And at no point has the OP suggested she was going to track her child without their knowledge Grin

A GPS tracker won't work for the same location so they would be useless inside a supermarket.

My DD runs away in shops but she is noisy unlike other a few other toddlers I've caught/seen caught doing the same.

Incidentally most tend to run back to their parent if spoken to by shop staff/another customer there as my DD engages in conversation with them and then claims she is lost even if she can see me.......
