Tell me your Cheeky wipes hacks

We love our cheeky wipes for our 4 month old. However the mandarin essential oil doesn't mix with the water in the clean box and the blobs just soak into whichever wipe touches them first. So they end up smelling musty sometimes. We have given up on the mucky box because it fills up instantly and the wipes don't get soaked. We bought a strucket instead but even that fills up quickly!

I'd love to hear your hacks if you have found a way to make them work better for you.

Use damp flannels instead,

Wash when dirty.

Job done.

Brieeeeeeeeeeee · 05/09/2021 11:32

Post newborn stage I stopped keeping them damp in the clean box and just kept a stack of dry flannels, which I soaked in the bathroom before a nappy change. I think I’d run out of the oil by that point too.

Mucky box contents get washed every evening!

We stored them in small Ikea Glis boxes - or large clover tubs. Sometimes used water, sometimes used camomile tea with some oil of some sort, poured over and left to stew.

The real issue was in the washing machine because they would escape the nappy bag, go through the filter and either block it or one ended up wrapped round the heating element.

We use cheeky wipes. I just store dry and wet a couple with fresh warm water each time and put in Tupperware to use. If I wet 4 and only need 2 I just re wet the extras at next change.
I wouldn’t want to leave wet soaking as they will be cold. Never used any oils.

All dirty get thrown in same place as the washable nappies

KatherineOfGaunt · 05/09/2021 11:36

Just use water. You don't need the oil. We store ours dry and keep a bottle of water there too, so you just wet what you need.

We store dry, wet as necessary and fling in a pile to wash.

BUT we only use for face and hands. Would be harder with arses!

SpikeDearheart · 05/09/2021 12:09

Been using them for 18 months and never used the oil. We just wet 8 or 10 at a time so they don't get a chance to go musty. We also cloth nappy so instead of using the mucky box we just put them in the dry pail with the used nappies and wash them all together, but that's not so helpful if you don't use reusable nappies!

Top tip for out and about - we've found the best way to store clean, damp wipes in the change bag is stuffing them into an old houmous pot Grin

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 05/09/2021 12:23

Run under the tap and wipe, chuck in nappy bucket with the nappy. For occasions when you might be out and changing somewhere without a sink then a small bottle of water or a little atomiser to wet the wipe.

I like many things about the cheeky wipes company but their wipes thing is ridiculous, it makes using washable wipes into some ultra complicated system of special mixtures and boxes when all you need is a dry wipe/flannel/ cut up old towel or fleece and water.

We use coconut oil and water and just wet a few at a time as if you do the whole lot it goes musty. Less likely to if you use boiling water though in my experience. Coconut oil is amazing as when they are on solids and poos are much more difficult to clean up (my kids eat a lot of Weetabix 🤢) it makes it so much easier. Dirty ones go in wetbag with nappies.

Doughnut100 · 05/09/2021 16:08

So many helpful tips, thank you! Argh I am dreading when she eats solids, it's all so easy now while it's just milk poo...

I'm going to stop storing them wet. Coconut oil sounds good but not sure how I combine that with only wetting a few at a time...

To be honest, apart from the increase in stinkiness we haven't found post weaning poos too bad. The first few weeks when he started to take more solids were fairly awful, but now he generally produces quite formed poos that plop straight from the nappy into the loo and don't require any kind of epic clean up job. We still get the occasional apoocalypse, but not often, thanks goodness!
