How much do you spend on your child's friend's birthday gift if invited to a party?

I haven't been to any kids' friends parties since my kid just started primary school 2 years back, and covid stop everything.

It is a hall party and parents and a sibling got invited (so 2 adult 2 child)
It will be a class party

What's the norm?
Thank you very much!

We probably spent no more than £10 when they were up to year 2/3 and they were 'big' parties. Once they got to be with their besties I didn't set a limit we just bought something we knew that would like.

I’ll spend between £10 and £15

Same as ran, up to a tenner maybe a bit more for a close friendship.

€20 is standard where I am

Soubriquet · 04/09/2021 20:38

£5-£10

Might go a bit more if the child is know to the family

I try and spend a £5er but shop around nice shops at sale times so often get things worth about £15-£20

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 04/09/2021 20:39

£10 for regular class parties. More if a close/family friend.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 04/09/2021 20:39

Around £10. Not a strict budget though. If we find a present that’s cheaper but still a good present, that’s fine. I try and look for things that cost £10 before they were on sale sometimes.

We spend more on DD’s best friends though.

Aim to spend a £5 but have various things in stock I pick up during the sale etc so might look a bit bigger.

As the child gets older, the parties decrease but the friends are closer/less generic, and budget increases. Never more than £15 though. A ten pound note is very popular!

Tatum1234 · 04/09/2021 20:40

£8-£10 for classmates.

MummyJ12 · 04/09/2021 20:41

£10-£15. More if it’s a child of a close friend.

When DS was little and whole class parties were a thing, I used to buy a pack of Usborne type books. Illustrated fairy stories/ knight tales etc and give one for each birthday gift. Work out at a couple of quid each, but look like more.

Takes the hassle out of it.

Fiver in a card is standard here.
