Silly talking

My 5 year old DC talks nonsense a lot - actual nonsense, made up words so not just the usual poo bum fart etc. A string of nonsense words. I think they might do it with a friend in school, but they do it all the time at home and it drives me nuts.

Anyone else’s DC do this?

How is their language generally? If it's good, this is actually a very creative thing and something that shows creativity and a love of words.

Encourage them...introduce them to nonsense poems like the following

Oh thanks I will take a look! His language is fine, he was on the early side to talk for a boy, not unusually so but better than “average” I’d say. He’s learning a second language so I do wonder if that’s influencing it too.

Highly probable. Look at all types of writing with him....lots of poetry and good, classic children's literature. If you read to him daily then great...encourage him to write stories too.

My DS spoke very correctly from age 3 onwards no play with sounds or anything like that - he got a diagnosis of AS when he started school.

Playing with sounds and langauge generally is a good sign.
