Skin Tag on newborn

My beautiful newborn baby girl was born with a large skin tag on her cheek , the doctor in the hospital said I would have to go on a waiting list for her to have it removed and we could be waiting a very long time as its not urgent, do you think there is anything i could do to speed this up as I am sure has she gets older in weeks she is going to be scratching this off like young babies do , I am so worried it is going to scar her and it looks so unsightly ?

Could you tie some string round it and wait til it drops off?

Or pay to go private?

Thanks for the reply , i have enquired about private and they said they wont do it until she is 12 month plus, I only tried 1 clinic so may try some more tomorrow

Our baby has one on her ear, they want to wait till 12 months because generally they need to give the baby an anaesthetic and the risks are lower when they’re a bit older. Unfortunately you can’t expect a baby to hold still while they try and operate so it’s safer all round. Please don’t tie a string round it or attempt to do anything yourselves. They’re unlikely to scratch it but you should always keep newborn nails as short as possible anyway.

My ds has got ear tags. Luckily hidden alot by his hair. We were told we'd get contacted about removing them as they said they would use a GA. Well ds is 3 now and they've not contacted us, if it is bothering you I'd look into going private. I personally feel i wouldnt risk having a general anaesthetic for my son for his skin tag as i know the one which is the most obvious is just hanging on by a thread of skin which im sure could be very simply removed either by tying a string or local anaesthetic. When i googled the statistics there was a 1 in 200,000 chance of someone dying under GA. That felt high for me for something non essential. Anyway what im saying mostly is dont rely on the nhs to get round to this.
