Disposable swim nappies - which are the best?

I currently use Tesco own swim nappies having used Tesco own regular nappies since my son was born and have been very happpy with them. I assumed the swim nappies were working ok until recently when I forgot to take a regular nappy along with me and put him in a swim nappy on him to come home. He was only in it for about 45 mins and when I went to change him he was absolutely soaked! Therefore I am now wondering how they work and are they leaking wee into the pool? I have noticed when I take the swim nappy off him after swimming a lot of water spills out of the nappy, is that wee?

Swim nappies leak wee, they don't have the absorbancy of standard nappies otherwise they would be very heavy for the baby to wear. Thier job is too stop any poo falling into the pool and even if your baby poos you would need to change the nappy straight away before it start breaking up and disolving in the nappy thus leaikng into the pool.

leaking pee doesnt matter as they are designed to contain poo not pee. Saying that, my ds is now 14 months and we go swimming most Saturdays and have done since he was about 12 weeks old and he has never pooed in a swim nappy once. We have recently bought washable ones instead as it is more economical (for us) than using the disposables.

Swim nappies are just a con, really. They don't absorb wee (or they'd suck up the pool) and are just to stop poo getting out. Most baby swimming costumes/washable swim nappies come with an integral net to catch poo, so they do the job just as well. So imo, the disposable ones are just another money-making scam by the nappy manufacturers and you're better off getting a swimming costume with a poo-catching net.

Thanks all for replies, but am now pretty horrified to think that we are all swimming around in baby wee! Is this hygenic?

isnt that what the chlorine is for? I have also heard that pee is supposed to be sterile anyway. Just remember to spit the water out when it gets in your mouth

swim nappies are for catching number 2's not number 1's as this is the real danger for the pool and swimmers. huggies are probably the most well known of the disposable swim nappies.

Worth noting that the disposable swim nappies can be good for more than one use. As long as you don't tear the sides open, and rinse well in clean water then you'll be good to go for a few swims.

That said, the actual reuseable ones come in much cheaper in the long run!
