12 wo bedtime routine advice

Morning!

So I'm very lucky that our 12wo dd has slept pretty well so far (touch wood) but we're trying to bring her bedtime earlier as she's been going to bed at 9.30pm up until now (waking for the day at approx. 7/8am with two/three feeds overnight).

We tried to get her to bed at 8pm last night which seemed to work a dream until she woke up 50mins later and then refused to settle until 10.30pm but then she slept through until 5am so I have no idea what happened!

We have a bath, pjs, book and bed routine so she knows it's bedtime.

Do you reckon last night was a blip and we should keep perserving or keep her bedtime at 9.30pm?

I've just read she should be getting 10/11 hours a night and she's been getting 9 ish on average.

Sorry for the ramble but any advice would be appreciated :)

Leave her be for now. She will gradually want to go to bed earlier as she gets older. My two DC were the same.

Ah wonderful stuff, that's reassuring thank you :)

Yes mine all had ten o'clock bed time at this age. They gradually go to bed earlier and earlier !

At that age it’s more the total sleep in the day so it could be total sleep needed 16 hours. 9 hours at night then 6 hours throughout the day.

I didn’t start pushing an early bedtime until 16 weeks - just went with the flow! I introduced a bedtime of 7/7.30pm over the course of a week and he really took to it. I think we’re having a bit of a sleep regression now though but generally he’ll sleep 10 hours overnight with one wake up for a feed. I tend to cap his last nap to end no later than 5pm so that he’s tired enough for bedtime

Mine was the same at that age and his bedtime is now 7pm (he’s 9 months). It does gradually come earlier on its own! Especially when they consolidate their naps into a more predictable routine.

My little boy is almost 13 weeks and the last 2 or 3 evenings he has gone to bed around 8/8:30. Prior to that his bedtime was about half 9, but he’s brought it forward himself without any intervention from us. It’s been so nice getting a little bit of an evening back but it does mean he wakes earlier in the morning so it’s swings and roundabouts! I personally wouldn’t interfere for now, she’ll probably get there soon. Congrats on the baby 😊

Oh and also I’d say we get about 10 hours overnight sleep and 5 hours daytime sleep so don’t worry about that x

I started putting my LO down 10-15 minutes earlier every few days. Thought I’d won the lottery when the clock change did an hour for me! But suddenly we were on a great routine. I would say take it slowly but one day you will just fall into it as others have said. I think we had a good bedtime by 14 weeks. But, I’m an early person so also rolled with the early starts for a while until night sleep extended a bit. That worked for us but may not suit everyone!

Thanks everyone, this has been really reassuring! :)
