Milk intolerance/allergy

My 10 week old baby was prescribed nutramigen 3 weeks ago as he had started from around 5 weeks having a diarrhea halfway through every feed (aptimal)and some in between, it was massive contrast to the previous 5 weeks were he was going every 3-4 days. I was to try the prescription formula for 2 weeks and then go back to the old formula. In the prescription he was maybe having one or two dirty nappies a day still explosive but not as watery. With 24hrs of returning to aptimal they returned to the way they were previously with every feed and more. I decided to try kendamil to make sure it wasn’t aptimal causing it, he’s been on that for 3 days now and still the same does this sound like a milk allergy he has literally no other symptoms other than he’s because quite restless no sleeping for long.

I’m trying to hang out the 2 weeks of returning to a dairy formula as the doctor asked but i don’t like to think I’m upsetting him.

Very unusual advice there from your GP. I'd talk to Allergy UK in the morning Thanks

Thank you I wasn’t aware of this

Did the information in the link sound like what might be going on with your LO @Babyontheway21?

Babyontheway21 · 31/08/2021 22:21

I think there are similarities but not something I can say is definite, it’s so hard to judge. He seems more settled today but I will see what the next few days are like. The doctor wants me to try his milk for another week but I think I’ll take each far as it comes. Thanks for the info Smile

It's better to be dairy free for 6 weeks before challenging with dairy to confirm an allergy as it allows time for healing and can make it more clear.

After 2 weeks the bowel is only just beginning to heal.
