Pukey 4 month old= v stressed out mum

I've just finished yet another day with me and my nearly 5 month old covered in sick. He's probably puked 10+ times today, large enough volumes for multiple outfit changes for us both. As soon as he's moved from lying down/reclined to upright he's sick.

He hasn't been putting on enough weight so the drs put him on gaviscon, which helped but made him horribly constipated. Got moved to omeprazole a week ago but he hates it and spits most of it out despite using all the tricks to get it down him.

I think because of the constant spitting up he's developed a feeding aversion and he won't feed unless he's coming round from a nap/asleep. Today he fed at 2.30 then had nothing until 6.30 where he drank 2 oz, threw up, and went to sleep. I'm having to feed him all night when he's sleepy/relaxed to get any milk into him. He's breastfed with one bottle of formula at bedtime but the aversion/sickness is the same with breast/bottle/expressed/formula.

Any advice or tips would be great as the mum guilt is hitting hard right now, he's such a happy sunny boy but I feel awful that he's not getting what he needs.

Have you tried carobel in the formula feed?Thickens it up and helps keep the milk down.
My son had horrible reflux(at the stage where he’s grown out of it now phew)- stopped meds at around 14 months
Used to hold him upright for half an hour after each feed to help keep milk down too.
With the omeprazole, he used to spit it out at first(the taste is nasty tbf) in the end I would give like 1.5ml at a time. He got used to it and by 9 months he would sit and wait for his medicine before his milk as he knew the routine.

His paediatrician also suggested early weaning- all depends on the baby. It can help at times.

This all seemed to start with him not putting on enough weight… was this actually serious to warrant a medical intervention? The indigestion medicines would seem a bit heavy handed now given the side effects. Surely all this vomiting is counterproductive to weight gain? I’d listen to your instincts.

No advice about the puking, but cover yourself with a big sheet while you hold LO. And keep him in simple clothes, don't bother dressing up! Honestly you can really minimise the work by using sheets and towels to catch everything. Maybe even a T-shirt layer.

Anti reflux formula is the way to go here op

My eldest was the same, she was constantly sick and it turned out that she’s allergic to milk and as a baby was reacting through my breast milk. Might be worth considering it could be something in your diet?

Keep going with the omeprazole, it really does make a difference (we went from 10+ vomiting episodes a day to maybe 1 or 2 maximum). They do get used to the taste, just do a little at a time.
