Wondering if this is ok.
Children are 13 and 9. I want to go to a fitness class. Grandparents live 5 mins away and could be called in an emergency. Is this ok or does the youngest need to go to grandparents (she want to stay home with her sister because she has all her stuff at home).

Mine are 13 and 10 and I wouldn't do this. I'd happily leave my eldest but not the youngest

You know your kids and I am assuming you have a sensible 9yo, I would say they will be fine :)

What time of day and how long for? What kind of area do you live in?

I'd leave home at 6:15pm and be back at 7:45pm. Yes both kids are sensible and get on well most of the time. Would be free time anyone so they would probably watch TV/film or play on iPad.

you know your dc best.
tbh I would leave my dc at home for an hour or two that age with a couple of strict rules.

Look at the NSPCC guide to leaving children home alone. You can download it half way down this link. We found it really helpful.

I’ve just joined a running club so run locally around our town, kids are 13&11 and I have just started leaving them. I am out of the house for about 1 1/2 hours
