Getting out with a baby - cinema screenings

I'm on mat leave with a 2 month old. Haven't been out much due to adjusting to life with a baby and covid.

Starting to feel like I would like to get out and do more.

A cinema about 30 mins away does baby and me screenings once a month and I'm tempted to go. DH said what's the point(?!) but it's a lovely independent cinema with sofas and these screenings are adapted for mums and babies.

Has anyone been? What's it like?

I'm assuming I can just sit and BF baby all the way through the film if need be!

Do it! And go now before thry start moving. Mine crawled at 5 months do I could never go because she'd have been off under the seats! I was gutted. Then Ds came along and I was so excited to be able to go and just never got a chance as you just have less time with the second, and then covid.

There'll be a dedicated place to leave your pram - don't worry. It'll be easier than a baby carrier. If you need a wee leave the pram in the pram park - it'll be fine! There won't be many people around at that time of day (the ones I went to were always around 11am).

You'll love it!

My friend did it no problem but she did take tiny ear defenders for the baby and got him used to them first. Good on you for getting out

I've booked the ticket so that I don't change my mind (and the showing is Tuesday morning)!

I think I'll need the pram or carrier because there's no car park so I will need to walk a bit. Car seat wouldn't work walking that distance.

I'm hoping there is somewhere for the pram as I've booked a seat on the back row (though there are only four rows)

I suppose if I go once I'll know more for if I go again!

It's supposed to have lower volume for babies so hopefully won't need ear defenders. Saying that, it occurred to me that if he behaves I could theoretically go to a "normal" screening but hadn't considered volume!

Never seen so many films - it was cheap and included a free coffee and bun. You can miss bits of dialogue if there are screamers in the audience! Got to be one of the easiest places to BF, comfy and dark and full of other women doing the same. GO.

I went to a baby screening a couple of months ago. We spent most of it stood in the aisle but it was good to see a film on the big screen. Only thing that annoyed me was that they let in some people without babies (despite advertising that they wouldn't) Wish I'd complained at the end but completely forgot to as we had nappy drama!

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 29/08/2021 23:10

@KitKatKong Is that because baby was fussing? I am hoping he will be ok since I can feed him.

That's strange that they let other people in. I wouldn't be keen on that and with covid I am still a bit nervous and would rather there weren't too many people there but they only do one screening a month so maybe it will be busy.

DD is 12 now so it was a long time ago but a friend and I went to see new Moon, we were the only people in the large Odean screen, the sound was still a bit loud so I just nipped outside and asked an usher if they could turn it down a bit more which they did with no problem.

Yeah you can leave your bag etc in your pram and it's easier if baby gets unsettled and doesn't want to stay on you, gives you an extra spare hand to carry a drink etc Smile

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 30/08/2021 10:50

@girlmom21 That makes sense. I suppose it's somewhere to put baby down although j don't know if I'll be able to get the pram up to where in sitting, three rows back

I'll report back tomorrow

We went to the cinema and really enjoyed it. It was a nice cinema, comfortable and with food delivered to the tables. Baby seemed to enjoy it too and I was able to feed him easily then we had a walk around after.

I am thinking of trying to go every month.
