Advice/opinions needed on 7 month old

Hi all,

I'm new here and this is my first post. I am looking for some advice/opinions and people's thoughts if possible.

I have a 7 month old baby girl. From birth she seems to have suffered with reflux in which we changed her formula from hipp organic to kendamil organic.
She has been on the kendamil for 7 months now but still seems to be suffering with reflux although it is not as bad as it was initially. I spoke to the GP regarding this but they prescribed Gaviscon for her but i do not want to medicate her at all and have read about the side effects with this.
My thinking is should i change her formula as this has been ongoing for a while now and at the moment we are weaning her also.
She just seems very unsettled during the day and night and its really taking its toll now. She wakes several times in the night just moaning and groaning and appears generally uncomfortable and is still half asleep, this then leads to crying and us having to soothe her back to sleep and put her back down. This has been ongoing for the last fee months now and to be honest its becoming tiresome.

She also sleeps on us in the daytime on our chest for her naps which doesnt help us either at the moment but she has done this from a few weeks old.
I just feel that at the moment she is really unhappy and moaney and i have a very unhappy child and its starting to make me sad. I'm thinking a formula change may help her....but unsure and I'm a bit reluctant to rock the boat at this stage, but I cant think of anything else to do?
Everyone who meets her says she is a happy baby because shes always smiling but I just cant see this when it feels like she's always moaning...or seems unsettled...what am i doing wrong? Sad
Any advice or opinions is much appreciated.

Thanks,
MZAA

Have you ruled out cmpa?

My dd improved once I cut out dairy from my diet and then was vastly better by the time she was sitting and on solids. I would have expected an improvement by 7 months so would be looking for the cause, be it underdeveloped valve still or potential allergies. Gas can also exacerbate reflux so if she is a windy baby then that might be causing problems too. Do her symptoms get worse after she eats anything specific?

Infant gaviscon (in UK at least) is just a thickener, not an antacid like the adult version, didn't work for us because of the underlying allergies etc. we had but if you try it then you might have an indication of what the problem is.

Lansoprazole and gaviscon aren't remotely comparable, so that isn't relevant at all op.
You can buy infant gaviscon over the counter in boots, and that isn't specific to areas either.
You've asked what you're doing wrong, and you've been advised correctly, that you aren't giving what can help your child. A formula change will do very little, for a baby with reflux.
I am a trained medicines counter advisor in a pharmacy, and i can confirm you are misinformed about infant gaviscon. Please actually listen to the advice you were given by a medical professional, rather than do your own research. Leaving your child uncomfortable due to a personal belief, based on shoddy research, isn't great op.

There is a thickener called carobel that you can buy from amazon or over the counter at pharmacies that can help if you're not keen on gaviscon, that way you may not have to try changing the milk.

My daughter is 13 months old and still suffers horrificly from reflux, she is medicated on a very high dose of omeprazole. She has been poorly managed due to backlog of gastro paeds appointments and inability of getting to see a gp face to face. I have been waiting 3 months for an appointment at the hospital and still don't have a date. We have recently been told after an xray, because she was vomiting blood, that she has been aspirating the whole time and may well have long term lung damage. Her throat was red raw and she ended up on antibiotics due to high risk of infection. The ramifications of uncontrolled reflux are horrific.

I truely understand not wanting to medicate unless absolutely necessary, we started with carobel when DD was 4 months and worked our way up from there. Infant reflux should start to improve from 6 months, so if symptoms are worsening or not improving, especially when they are able to sit up and walk, then I strongly suggest trying medication.
