Baby weaning

Hi! I'm a first time mum and I'm stuck on what to do at the moment, I have a 20 weeks old baby boy and for the last couple of weeks he has lost interest in milk and is taking less everyday than he use too. I've spoken to the health visitor 2 weeks ago who said to persevere with the milk and if there's no change in a couple of weeks which is now then to introduce foods, however im worried with him being only 5 months is he ready, he can sit up with support and has great head control, and he is always watching when me and or my husband eat near him. He was always a good sleeping but since dropping his milk intake he has started waking up more in the night. I've also noticed he is VERY dribbly and has rosy cheeks and is sometimes a little grumpy so I suspect he's teething. Does it sound like he does need food or could he simply just be teething and should I try hold off closer to the 6 month mark?

Teething I reckon. Try giving teething relief before milk feed, I understand sucking makes gums sore although can't remember the source off my head.

My little went through the same and still does.

11m and 8 teeth.

It is probably teething. I'd try him with a teething gel before a bottle and a dose of ibruprofen about half an hour before his last feed to see if he'll take more.

How much does he weigh right now and how much milk is he getting? As long as it's roughly 2.5 floz per pound in weight he should be fine.

We did wean DD at 23 weeks but she was showing all of the signs of readiness, it's not really a strict 26 week thing as long as they show the signs of being ready Smile
