Babies temp 35.4

shannonhinton0421 · 28/08/2021 00:08

My 4 months old temp was 35.4 when he was asleep. He was in a vest, baby brow and blanket over him. The room was 23.5 degrees.
I put him on my chest for over an hour wrapped in 3 blankets and his temp still didn't rose his body felt cold. Soon as I wake him up 15 mins later his temp regulates again. I'm so scared of sleeping and anything happen ring to him for being cold.

I think panic mode is the first thing most mothers go into.
Glad to hear he's doing ok and drinking today.

I know everyone says it but try to nap when he does, it sounds like you need the rest. You're doing a brilliant job. X

I was not questioning you or calling you a lier so you need to calm down !!!

Its a public forum and people can say what they want

BUT YOU ARENT GOING TO GET MEDICAL ASSISTANCE HERE

I said it was fast of the paramedics arriving and leaving and not taking a 4 month old baby but mum suspects something is wrong
Which i still stand by.

I asked questions, gave you my opinion, which is what you asked people for.

Baby has been seen by various doctors, A&E, health visitors and Paramedics

No-one can help you here.
You need professional help

Eye roll at 'you need professional help?' as above.

Seriously, OP was worried about her son, she wanted some help at the time, regardless of the timings or whatever, why be so suspicious?

Hope your son is feeling a bit better now OP. There is nothing worse when they are ill in the middle of the night and you are trying to seek assistance. Trust your instincts and always phone 111 or 999 in emergency. You did the right thing to help your baby, ignore people who are trying to make a mountain out of a molehill and cause trouble where none is required.

OP my little one recently had a temperature that would spike at over 38 and then drop down to normal really quickly. He was off his feeds too. When he saw the GP his temperature was normal so they didn't do anything. 111 were beyond useless. Ended up taking him to A+E that evening and he was admitted with a kidney infection. He's all better now. SmileWith hindsight the temperature spike was after a feed so would have been when he was doing a wee, and in pain. Sad Just thought I'd share in case it helps you. It was only when we got to hospital that I felt we got taken seriously and the doctors started thinking outside the box. It was dismissed as covid initially despite two negative tests. Hopefully you get to the bottom of it soon. X

Hi op,
It's always worth getting medical advice in these situations but for some comfort, after a viral infection my son caught at 9 months old where he had high temperatures, he then was very cold for a few days after. We were told by the doctor that they body's temp can go a bit crazy after an illness in trying to regulate it again.
I'm not a doctor though myself so definitely better to get it checked but that's what I was told when my son's temp was 35.5 for a day or two

Who said the paramedics hadn’t already been when OP posted her opening post ? I read the thread as written after they had left and that she was still worried.
It was unnecessary and unhelpful and if you disbelieve just report and move on.

Thank you very much. I had considered this when i was Googling as you do. When I took him to a&e over a week ago the doctor advised it might have been a bug, I told him it wasn't as I know my body but all his checks came back fine and they advised if no change go GP which I done, who basically told me I'm over reacting as a first time mom and it's normal for him to be getting abit I'll as he's getting used to germs. All the health care professionals havnt been great I've been so scared for 2 weeks now but lastnight his temp was ok and today/tonight so far so good. He seems to be eating better too. If it changes anytime again though I will take him straight to a&e and just be forceful. Again, thank you I really appreciate your help x

@WaterIsBest

No-one said you were a bad mum!! Everyone gave you advice!

Dont put words into peoples mouths!

I questioned the times because as i said ‘That was quick’
The paramedics werent there long at all and very quick considering it was a 111 call and they had already left, just an observation

It is VERY unusual for paramedics to not take a baby to hospital
They Normally trust a mothers instincts!

If your worried, take him back to A&E

Yes you asked for advice on here but uv said yourself, his been seen by various doctors, midwifes and paramedics
If your still concerned, back to A&E with him or 999!

Just read your post and you do come across mean, sorry but it’s true. My daughter at 3 months was choking on her vomit and they didn’t admit her or take her to hospital, came checked her and left.

So it’s not unusual at all for babies not to be taken to hospital.

OP are you 100% sure your thermometers are right, we had 4 all decent £50 ones and all of the buggers were wrong! Was maddening!

Sounds like your little one has a virus. I’d be cautious though about too many blankets and layers just in case. Hope he gets better soon, it’s horrid when they’re sick x

Yeah when the paramedics came they checked it for me and when we checked it on there it was 63.4 and on mine 63.3 and they checked in about 3 times she advised me it was ok, as I explained previously his temp was not regulating when he was sleeping I believe he way have had a viral infection as per the ladies comment above. In regards to the blankets I would NEVER wrap my baby up like that but his temp was 54.4 degrees of course I've got to what I can to try and make him warm whilst he was in my arms and like I said it made no difference to him body temperature even when I touched him he was still cold.

His temp was 35.4 - spelling error in previous reply I'm typing this at 5:30 and I'm tired as I have to explain myself incase the detectives think I'm lying about my baby.

Hey op

Hope your LO is feeling better!

Advise I got from the hospital for temps was to open windows to allow air in as it'll help them regulate their temp.

TreeDice · 31/08/2021 09:38

I'm not sure but dont temperatures usually drop when humans sleep? That's why we have blankets etc? I'd assume that was the same for babies but definitely one to keep an eye on with them not being able to regulate.

Hope the baby is doing better OP

Bumply · 31/08/2021 09:46

Op, when people question timings like speed of 111 response they're not questioning you as a real life mother, they're questioning if you are a troll putting over a story with the drama turned up high. Sad as it may be there are people who make up stories about the illness of a child who may not even exist.
