Knee support for 3 year old

Hello

My 3 year old has very weak knees and I'm thinking of some sort of knee support to help him. Any recommendations of good ones for his age/size?
(It's to do with hypermobility)
Thanks all

You need a specialist to fit something....he's so young that you could cause damage if you choose the wrong thing.

Yes exactly was pp said if a medical professional has deemed this necessary then they will fit it or refer you to orthotics who will measure and fit. If this is just something you have thought of then don’t do it without medical advise it could have a very damaging effect which is the reverse of what you’re after I’m sure.

Agree. Has this been diagnosed by a specialist? If so, you need to talk to them or a paediatric physio to get proper advice. If he hasn't been properly diagnosed yet then you need to see a gp first.

Ah ok thankyou for advice. He had bloods taken for genetic testing in March, consultant reckons results should be back for October. Gp has referred us to specialist clinic but think appointment for that won't be for around 6 months so wondered if there might be something to help his joint pain in the meantime. Whenever he runs or walks for a distance he ends up in tears and is starting to struggle to play and keep up with other kids his age. Guess we'll just have to hold our few more months until genetic consultant can speak to us and keep putting ice on his knees when he's been playing. Thanks all

It’s very tough for him and you too! DD has hypermobility and her knees often give trouble. We were advised not to use knee supports but she was given specific exercises to help strengthen the muscles around the knee. The physio said that knee supports might help in the short term but would not help her knees grow stronger overall. Can you get a physio appointment sooner than the consultant appointment? They might be able to give advice while you are waiting.

My eldest has hypermobility, and as above exercises to strengthen the muscles to help prevent problems are preferred over supports which can lead to weakening of the muscles and therefore more instability in the joint in future. Swimming is good (if it doesn't hurt) but probably best to ask your gp to refer to physio who can best advise.

That's a very good idea, thankyou!
