I'm in the car on the way to DS's surgery

He's 9 months (8 corrected).
It's a common standard hernia operation, nothing life threatening or severe.
I've had surgeries in the past myself so I know the process - yet I'm feeling a little tearful and a little nauseous.

I just hope I can contain myself in front of DS to make sure he doesn't get nervous or worried.

I don't really know what I'm hoping to achieve with this post apart from getting it off my chest.

It’s only natural to be worried.
They will take good care of your little boy, I hope all goes well and the wait for him to be out of surgery passes quicker than you expect.

Ah, honey, completely natural.

The surgeons are as keen as you for this to be straightforward and efficient as possible.

Hopefully, you'll be on the other side before you know it. Will you be on your own while you wait?

Hello, just wanted to share my DS also had a hernia op at 5mo. He recovered so quickly! He was back to himself after 2 days and within a week it was like nothing had even happened. He's 16mo now and you can barely see the scar. They really are so resilient at that age and heal super fast. Good luck Thanks

Oh of course you feel worried, he’s still so wee. Try and find something to distract you while he’s in surgery, head to Classics and find the idea vs reality clothing thread, that’ll keep you going for ages Wink.

I hope everything goes smoothly and quickly for you x

My DC also had a hernia op at a similar age - he was absolutely fine, it's a really straightforward procedure (although typically his wasn't!) but he was absolutely full of beans in recovery and back to his normal self soon afterwards.

It's always horrible sending your children for surgery, but he'll be in good hands & it should be done and dusted really quickly. Best thing to do is go and get a coffee & cake and try to distract yourself when you're waiting.

Sending unmumsnetty hugs Flowers

No matter how big or small an operation, it’s always a worry to us parents.

He’ll be in the best of hands,

Aww yeah I remember that lump in your throat - though my DC was 5 when they had tonsils removed. It’s a really weird experience, staying calm and positive for them when you’re worried about it yourself. He will be fine, and you will all be in recovery together before long.

Oh wow! I'm so overwhelmed with your kind words! I've got DH with me luckily as it's a little stressful at the moment.

We're in the pre-operation area desperately trying to keep DS distracted as he's hungry from fasting and really not happy, screaming the place down. We have no idea yet when he gets to have this turn (they'll start operations around 1330, but I don't think he's first).

Definitely been having to wipe a sneaky tear from my eye from time to time.

Glad to know recovery is really quick, that's such a weight lifted and looking forward to a distraction coffee and thread as soon as he gets to go in!
